Indeed if its economy is as sound as the Yes vote contends, Scotland will (marginally) strengthen the Eurozone.
Hmmm yes I don't disagree with what you have said there, but lets not forget this is cloud cuckoo land Salmond's interpretation of the Scottish economy.

I think Wee Eck will have a wry smile on his face tonite as these numpties have played right into his hands.Oh and its nothing to do with Braveheart, thats ancient history ,I would suggest more likely to do with Trainspotting ,a real scottish movie and not a Hollywood bastardized version!

If I remember correctly, the Chinese didn't let foreigners have them for most of that time. When foreigners did need them, they bought them on the black market, for whatever the real exchange rate was.

Look mate, we've moved on from that red herring. The point is that there's no reason at all why one currency can't be linked to another one.

Whether or not that's advisable is a different point.

Yes, there is, if you actually want a 21st century economy, and not to be an economic basket case like 1980s China or the Soviet Union.

Why would Travelex exchange Scottish pounds for UK pounds at 1:1 just because the Scottish government say so?

Comparison of Scottish independence with Catalonia is absurd. Scotland can wean by full right of the UK, because always was a different country to England, with King, flag, anthem and own language. But it is not the case of Catalonia, which is a division of the old Kingdom of Aragon in Spain. So Catalonia can not be an independent country, because that was never a country as such

We move on hopefully!

If you are looking for a currency that ties itself to another, look no further than Hong Kong. It has had a tie to the us $ @ 7.8 for decades. Despite 1997 and china taking over, so without doubt, you can tie your currency to another. If you are so keen to keep the pound, you could link up with Egypt. ;-)

Which it did by requiring the banks which printed notes to deposit US$1 for every HK$7.8 that they printed. A similar system in Scotland would require the Bank of Scotland (presumably) to hold one UK pound for every Scottish pound they printed, so they could swap them on demand.

That doesn't seem like a great plan for an independent country.

Not really. The safeguards were built in then systematically removed when they became "inconvenient". That wasn't just the fault or choosing of places like Portugal or Greece.

Ok it doesnt effect us directly anymore, buts its still our history...where we spent the largest part of our lives, and family and freinds still live there, added to that some still have property there. So of course we care.

"These People" ?

The Scots would use their own passport. A Scottish passport.
