I am addicted!

Actually not to drugs -- Jane Austen!!

I watched Pride and Prejudice on PBS and of course I have always been rather keen on Colin Firth. Then I watched Persuasion. But I also downloaded the DVDs on my computer and I was rather disgusted that the PBS version left out big chunks - parts that were some of my very favourite scenes. I also downloded Sense and Sensibility.

Anyway, now I have bought the annoted version of Pride and Prejudice. I am finding it really interesting. It explains difficult sentences where Jane Austen uses words that are not commonly in use today and it discusses common behaviour in those days. I guess I have always been interested in history and how people did things differently in past times.

I also find it really interesting that Jane Austen managed to write books that we still find fascinating 200 years later.

Are there any other Jane Austen fans on here?

I can't remember if we have had a book thread - any recommendations for good reading? Apart from Jane Austen that is.

And BWT Lorna I AM getting out more!! I am out there with my little gardening trowel digging out the frozen doggy offerings that the melting snow is uncovering. I hope you are doing yours too. If you wait until everything melts you will get quite a lot of rather stinky slop.

So - on with the boots; grab the grocery store bags and get to it!

Yes that's another bit of excerise I'm getting. I know what you mean about thawing - went out the other day it was plus 5 all day came home and the septic tank must have thawed as well the smell greeted me when I opened the door:eek: thank God I'd just had it emptied.

I love Jane Austen's novels, and Colin Firth is very possibly the most scrumptious man I've ever seen (well not in real life, but still).

Weelll - Hugh Jackman --- yes he is OK. But I agree with Judy - not a patch on Colin Firth. I am waiting to see him in Mammamia. I understand he is singing. Not sure if he is wearing spandex though. And he is also in the remake of St. Trinians. He is apparently the fall guy for all the jokes!!

Here you are - Colin Firth on the phone. Damn good job he is not in a restaurant or Bazzz etc. would have something to say about it!!

If you like Austen you'll probably like Margaret Atwood's stuff, if you haven't already. She was the Handmaiden's Tale lady, but I prefer Alias Grace for some (slightly) local Canadian flavour.

i absolutly love Jane Austin, the new pride and prejudice with matthew macfadyen and keira knightley as also wonderful, they way he strides across the fields at the end is magnificent, and my fav scene is when she runs in the rain and he follows her to that mosalium and tells her he loves her. i can play that bet over and over, and how they remember all the words is just fab!!
they can also be quite funny, brenda blethyn has me in stitches, when they come to the house to propose!:D
