On your question, folks handle this differently

hypothetical answer...

For me, the first time that I/we weren't invited we'd definitely wonder why & maybe hurt by it, a feeling of resentment.

On the second time round, not being invited I would simply come to the realization they don't want us around - so, its a 'move on, do what makes our life happy without worrying about what others think or do' & never ever let it bother us again, after all 'who needs family like that ever', they'd no longer be part of our thoughts or lives.
