Hydro price hike

Re: Hydro price hike
On peak 17.5 cents
Mid peak 12.8
Off peak 8.3
Delivery and related charges 133.12. There's a note that this bill is debt retirement charge exempt (yee ha!). So, yes, electricity seems to be much cheaper in BC.
I didn't bring the gas bill but, since gas is charged by the litre, I suspect it wouldn't be easy to compare anyway.

Re: Hydro price hike
In Calgary last month we used just under 800kWh's @ 4.3 c/kWh = $33.60 but then you had to add the Admin charge+Distribution charge+Transmission charge+Balancing pool allocation ($2 credit)+rate Riders + local access fee which in total added another $61 to the bill!

Re: Hydro price hike
On my utilities bill the unexpectedly large cost is water and sewage. Usually the water and sewage costs almost as much as the electricity and gas.

Re: Hydro price hike
How many provinces have these admin, and other misc fees adding such large amounts to the bill?

Re: Hydro price hike
Crazy world we live in people, we have been trying harder to use power after 7pm this year for washer and dishwasher, then I read......
I quote:
"Ontarians consumed less electricity than expected over the recent milder winter," said a statement from the OEB.
"As a result of lower usage, Regulated Price Plan (RPP) prices did not recover the full cost of serving RPP customers. One of the main reasons prices are increasing in May is to recover this shortfall."
On the one hand we have the global warming squad saying use less power, when we do the Hydro people put the cost up, a lose lose situation IMO
Using the same analogy shouldn't gas (petrol) prices be going down? No low use, penalty, high use bonus there I guess !!!

Re: Hydro price hike
Is this debt retirement thing debt hydro has or did the province add it to hydro to go towards general debt?
How do they justify such a high delivery charge?
In ON is there just 1 hydro company like in BC or is there different companies?

Different companies now. HydroOttawa, Guelph Hydro, Hydro One are the three I've had based on where I've lived. There are others.
Still think the "power" itself is produced by OPG but I could be wrong.

They have no need to justify anything.
There is one electricity wholesaler, Ontario Hydro, and in heavily populated areas local retailers; Toronto Hydro, Guelph Hydro, etc. The retailers do not compete but service individual areas.

Re: Hydro price hike
Ontario Hydro ran up the debt buying yacht sails for the President, building unsuccessful power stations and various other ways.
They have no need to justify anything.
