That wasn't too bad, just enough time for a romantic candlelight dinner
They finished cooking 2 minutes before the power loss. In fact the power loss saved me having to turn the oven off. Canadian priorities. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...46406921a3.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...e310fb6596.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...7f00e558d7.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...4152a165b6.png But never mind. There's always coffee. |
Re: Hurricane Dorian
Don't forget to turn it off before the power comes back on...
Stay safe Bristol (and everyone else out East) |
Re: Hurricane Dorian
We got off light. Power loss only 2 and 1/2 hours, although about a third of the greater Moncton area are still off. Chairs on the deck slid a bit, loads of leaves and twigs on the deck, no trees down.
Lucky us. |
Re: Hurricane Dorian
Daughter was also lucky in that they had no damage .............. their immediate neighbourhood turned out to be very sheltered. Trees were blown down across their road to either side of them but several houses away, it is a major road plus bus route so hopefully it will be cleared soon.
There was still wind and rain overnight, but much less, so they managed to sleep well. They lost power just after 2 pm Saturday afternoon and have been told not to expect it back before Tuesday morning at the earliest. Food and games were by the light of tea candle lanterns that they use when camping. First thing they did this morning was move the BBQ back outside and boil up a pan of water to make a pot of tea. Daughter is a real tea lover, but it must be tea leaves and brewed properly. Her son is also turning into a tea lover. Quite unlike mother/grandmother  They will be using the BBQ for the next few days ......... I guess her OH gets sent outside even if the weather changes from the current sunny lovely Fall weather day She's expecting her office to be open in downtown Halifax tomorrow so will have to go, but schools are still "iffy". |

If not you, then who? Or has she rebelled? ;)
I used to drink tea, though not so concerned about the ceremony or the china but I haven't drunk real tea for years. So I was using term mother/grandmother to actually apply to 3 generations! |
Re: Hurricane Dorian
Daughter is praising NSP .......... their electricity came on just over 4 hours ago, or about 8 pm their time.
That's much better than Tuesday morning, as they were told to expect  |
Re: Hurricane Dorian
Our neighbourhood only has one or two downed trees and some random branches lying around. We are one of the few areas it seems not to have lost power at all... just a few flickers which reset the TB. Very fortunate indeed.
Friends on the peninsula, however, reporting a completely different story and, regrettably, that lovely boardwalk area I mentioned in another thread seems to be a bit of a mess just now. Great work being done by the power workers though and, I have to say, I think the communication from all the authorities has been excellent. Weather was beautiful yesterday and the same today minus the breeze. |

At least 4 of those very large Army people carriers were in daughter's neighbourhood, with full complement of soldiers in each one. Cleaned up the mess around, and gave great enjoyment to any kiddies who were at home.
