Has anyone already said this?

Have a nice car for summer and a "winter beater" for winter. Don't pay much for them and treat the winter beater like a disposable car.

I detect a clash of values here. Many people feel smug after demonstrably wasting huge sums of money. This is the explanation for Lexus or Mercedes SUVs and Hummers. In this context it's also the explanation for the moral decay of North America.

Why is it a waste?. If the person likes what they have bought it isn't a waste, only in your eyes.

That's a good idea, and something we have sort of done. Trouble is I need something that's a little more reliable for long drives.

So, I found a "touch less" wash nearby... "AquaJet" they called it. I thought it was going to strip the paint off the firkin car!! Talk about powerful jets!!

Top of the line, triple wax, just under $11.

Did a good job of the wheels and tyres, a rubbish job of drying (luckily it was +1 today), but for 11 bucks, not bad. Nowhere near the finish of a hand wash and wax, but at least it got nearly 2 months worth of crud and salt off it. So thanks for the tip on that one (Rich??).

Next mission... find one that does underbody too.....!!

I thought they all did that...keep looking, you'll find one. On another note, I hope you've got some kind of underbody wax/oil protection?

Here "Rust Check" or one of the other oil application treatments seems to make a real difference.

I chose a crappy browny bronze colour for my new Civic... it will stay much the same colour in the winter, and wont show the rust so bad in a few years time....
