Hotmail account
Afternoon All,
We are emigrating mid January and I was advised to set up a Hotmail account in preperation. I can then give it out to friends (selected) and family when we move. I have been tried to set up an account and was successful, the only thing is it has set up .co.uk rather than .com - I am no computer wizard does anyone know if this will work in Canada? :curse: Thanks Annette:eek: |
Re: Hotmail account

Re: Hotmail account
The company I used to work for in the UK banned all incoming Hotmail so that's worth thinking about if you want to email some of your friends who use a work-based PC.
I still log onto my BT Internet account from Canada although I have now been told after 10 months that my days are numbered and it will cease in December. You should be able to access your own UK email account from abroad for a few months. I have a new Canadian Sympatico account and use gmail too, oh and hotmail for my MSN  |
Re: Hotmail account
On the topic of email, can anyone recommend a good email program, client, application or whatever geek speak term is currently used?
I use to use Eudora and then got into the habit of web-based email but now I want to go back to non-web-based email (whatever that is called). Suggestions? |

You have the option to donate to the developer, if you want, and I think that you can actually pay for it if you want manuals/tech support, but the built in help is so clear that I'm sure you wouldn't need that... I don't like it. :p Actually I haven't use it but I associate it with 'security issues' and viruses. Has it improved? |

Pegasus is excellent, and very user friendly in my opinion. http://www.pmail.com/index.htm

Re: Hotmail account
yahoo would be one of the bigger ones.
to get a .com or .ca ending for the big providers try to search for the local page. as an example go to yahoo.ca and search the site for the possibility to set up a free e-mail account.

I use Entourage:

Yes it will, I have one, but most of the time people dont know what I am talking about when I say .co.uk. So to save hassle I have a gmail account. I like the setup much more than the hotmail one too. So I use hotmail for things that are likely to generate spam and the gmail one for real.

Re: Hotmail account
Thanks for the email recommendations. :) Now I'm even more confused.

Re: Hotmail account
Sorry to say, I dislike Pegasus.
I like Gmail, and not just because it's free. I find it to be user-friendly. As daft batty and or4ngecrush have said, one can have a "clean" Gmail account that one uses in limited circumstances (to correspond with family members, friends and other contacts who are not likely to introduce one to spammers). Then one can have a second Gmail account or a Hotmail account or whatever, and one can use that alternative account as a "spam trap." |

Just curious - what don't you like about it? I'm biased because it's what I've been using in its various forms since 1994, but I find it has the perfect balance of ease of use, powerful features, security and customisability (which I'm fairly sure isn't a real word, but nevermind...!) |
