Hockey - Brit style

So, How many expats have had a go at hockey? I have to be honest and the thought of accessable hockey is very exciting for me. Have you managed to find a local team to play in? If so, has the transition from front line, to bench warmer been a shock??:p I imagine that the standards are sooooooooo much higher  Has it improved your game?? Did you struggle to be accepted?? Were you welcomed and been enjoying pick-up games?? How many have been checking out Backyard rinks on the laptop, while telling the wife your researching local schools?

Hi

I played rec hockey here a few years ago and am looking forward to playing again on the other side. I have only done a little research but there appear to be so many levels of hockey available that theres no need to be a bench warmer. One of my dreams is to play pond hockey so that will be happening this winter.

Where are you headed?

Tom

Main problem is Hockey brit style doesn't involve a pair or iceskates.
Was forced to play hockey at school, got quite good, but i'd be a liability on an ice rink:lol:

Ah, sorry for the confusion. I am on about what Brits refer to as Ice Hockey. I have played since a kid, but wanted to play some when I get to Canada. Just wondered if any other brits have got into hockey over there? If so, was the standard soooooo much higher?

I played regular Friday night pond hockey this past winter, and have been asked if I want to join a team at a local indoor rink next winter, just for shits and giggles.

Can't say I'm anything much more than a liability on ice really - can cope adequately swanning around by myself with a stick and puck, and have learned basic shooting techniques. I'd cope in a fight (as long as stability wasn't a pre-requisite), but fast turns and stuff like skating backwards (deliberately) are but a dream as yet.
