They were speaking about the snow in Calgary here in New Glasgow, NS yesterday (we were basking in +20C )

Is snow in early October typical? Does it go away and come back again or is that your temps plunging already for the winter?

Yes it's normal. Yes it goes away. No that's not it until spring.

It'll be gone by Tuesday night.

Last year the Highland Games at Canmore was ruined by 6 inches of the white stuff an Labour Day weekend, the start of September. Then it went, and the ski season was actually late getting going d/t lack of snow.

Then it came back with a vengeance mid-December and it was too cold (for me) to ski anyway. And the snow stuck around until about May, which was VERY unusual. But that's Calgary weather for you .... expect the unexpected!

We have about two inches settling on the grass, but nothing on the drive. Just not ready for it, seems far too early after last winter

Had the first snow of the season on the highest peaks of the north shore mountains at the beginning of this week. Not expecting any in Vancouver this year though

It was snowing in the high passes of BC yesterday, down as far as Hope. Stopped off at Williams Lake and Lilloet and it was extremely cold. Got to Vancouver and it was 18 degrees as we will get for the rest of the week, with sunshine.
