Hey I miss them too.
You can also get them in the British Shop in the South Center Mall and the Market Mall in the North. http://www.goodtasteofbritain.com/ Last time I got some they were around $ 2.50 a tin. Enjoy x Mrs Minihaha |

Can you bring canned foodstuffs into Canada? If so we'll put a few cases of beans etc in the shipping container, will make good expat bribes ;)

Re: Heinz Baked Beans - UK version!?
Go to Sobeys and buy Clark's beans in tomato sauce.
Closest thing to Heinz beans that we have ever tasted over here. Around 99c per can but is sometimes on offer. Feast your eyes ;) |
Re: Heinz Baked Beans - UK version!?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts - i'll give sobey's a try!! The other option is to drown the beans in HP brown sauce!!

Re: Heinz Baked Beans - UK version!?
When I first came to Canada, the thing I missed the most were gherkins. I was a big fan of cheese and gherkins. The pickles here didn't taste the same and I suffered gherkin withdrawal. However, once I started eating Bick's dill pickles etc etc - when I went back to England I hated the gherkins. It's all a question of getting used to what is available. You only like the taste of the Brit baked beans because that is what you are used to.
There are some really good pickles for sale - crispy and garlicky - yumm!! My husband occasionally fools around and cooks his own beans. I have no idea what he puts in them but they are really good. If you make your own you can fiddle around until they taste how you like them. I assume if you were really keen, you could buy some Mason jars and save some for another time. |
Re: Heinz Baked Beans - UK version!?

Heinz Salad Cream is readily available at most major grocery stores in Calgary, as are Heinz baked beans, but most Brits don't like the taste or consistency of the real Heinz original baked beans.

In Superstore, the Ribena can be found next to the Patak's sauces, the Yorkie puddings can be found in the freezers alongside the the other puddings (), tins of Ambrosia custard are packaged as President's choice, Lyle's golden syrup can be found in Sobeys, HP brown sauce is found everywhere, as is pickled beetroot, black (blood pudding), white (oatmeal) pudding and oatcakes (although they are sweet and not savoury unless 'From Scotland'). :D |

Heinz salad cream is in the supermarkets here - can't remember if it's Sobey's or Altantic Superstore (Loblaws).

Re: Heinz Baked Beans - UK version!?
Excellent, might see if we can squeeze a few cases of assorted things in then, baked beans, Daddies sauce (nicer than HP), salad cream so far.
What about good English mustard or horseradish sauce, can you get it in Canada easy enough? |
