Well we are going to have a wee Canadian in the family!
Just wondered if anyone else has had a baby here on a permanant resident visa, does it mean the baby will be a candian citizen, do we have to registar them with immigration and all that kind of stuff really!!
Be nice if they could be dual citizanship.
Would say, maternity care here is VERY different and blimin expensive if you actually want to have a choice with care!!

If reading this forum has taught me only one thing it is the importance of putting all of one's children on the same footing, from a citizenship point of view, if at all possible. Jeremy's (JAJ's) admonitions on that score have sunk in.
Your Canadian-born baby will be a dual Canadian-British citizen, and you don't need to worry about him/her. To make things as fair as possible for your older children, though, you and your husband should apply for Canadian citizenship for yourselves and for your older children when you're eligible to do so.

Congrats to you both - or all three I guess.
I didn't know it was expensive to have a baby in Canada. My granddaughter's Mom just had a baby and I don't think it cost her anything. At least the hospital and doctor didn't. I've no doubt it's cost her plenty since!

Congrats to you both. My two older boys were both born when I was on PR. The third 5 months after citizenship. All three automatically hold Canadian citizenships as they were born here.
Yep if you want to go with anything other than a hospital delivery, certainly in Alberta you will pay and pay and pay. I believe in other provinces midwifes are still a reasonably priced option.
Just as a note for future, you need to have the long form birth certificate in order to claim any british passports. (shows both parents names) Birth certificates (and I can only speak for Alberta here though, may be different in other provinces) can be issued 14 days after birth, make sure that whoever goes to request the certificate gets the correct one.
Do you know where you will be delivering?
