Has Brexit made you feel it's less likely you'd move back to the UK?

I can relate to many of the sentiments expressed in this article.

Ironically Brexit has made me settle down better here:

BBC - Capital - The expats who don’t want to come home

We may have had a thread on this already, but do any of you feel the same way?

I don't care either way as I have no intention of moving back. I still think it depends on how your life is in Canada rather than anything to do with Brexit

Me neither. Nothing to do with Brexit. The UK Christmas adverts did make me a little bit homesick though :o

Well it sounds like you are both quite settled in Canada.

I haven't felt that settled. But I have felt more "at home" in Canada since Brexit and less part of the UK. I've felt less homesick.

Nope. I am feeling somewhat homesick for England and thoroughly enjoyed in my last trip back in the summer. For the record i did not witness any Eastern European bashing or racism, just a refreshing blend of good humour and good manners by all around me.

I don't think it has any bearing on me but around 2010 one of my born-in-Canada children emigrated to London with her partner to work in inner city healthcare jobs. I think it very unlikely that they would have chosen the UK had there been Brexit.

Brexit did make us think, did we do the right thing by coming back....?

But by not sitting next to TrumpTown, we're much happier having an Ocean between us, and not being too reliant on a single trading partner... ;)

We have no plans at all to move back. But there was always that psychological comfort that we could move back if needed or desired. I think Brexit was not practically impacting the feasibility of that - I'm confident I could still find work & reasonably confident that Mrs AX could pick up a teaching job eventually - but again, it feels like the UK is not the same place it was and that makes it less attractive.

Funny the way things happen innit? I could have written that myself.

Between the Brexit version of the UK and Trump USA I'm quite happy I live "sort of in between" in Canada.

If I was to ever feel the need to leave Canada - and it's difficult to think of realistic circumstances to bring that about - I could revisit my original intention to take early retirement in Spain but part of that was to learn the language before going but I daresay I might get by in some areas. But for language problems, almost anywhere in Europe would be preferable.

Of course that may no longer be an option anyway.

To be fair it's not just Brexit. It was actually quite close, would likely be reversed if redone and with the turnout it's only about a third "in favour" anyway. Brexit just seemed to be the topping for the way the country has gone. It's be a bit like returning to Thatcher's Britain but maybe worse.

Optimistically, the country did pull back from that but I can't see a similar stepping back from the precipice happening again.

Post Brexit I'd be more willing to move back to the UK, but probably no more likely to.

I have no plans to return, however if I had such intentions to return to Scotland, the prospect of Sturgeons Socialist Republic was enough reason not to. England would likely be my destination. As for Brexit, this now would be a factor in any such decision. In my case it's all hypothetical but it's something I have considered " what if".

Isn't Donald Trump in a long-distance bromance with Vladimir Putin?
