The Hangover Thread

OK so "The Maple Leaf" is supposedly the Pub/ Dive Bar banter thread of the Canada section.

I am sitting at work for the second time this week nursing a monster hangover and feeling very sorry for myself after a night out on the tiles with LondonMike, LMartin and Oakvillian.

For any thread to be vaguely effective a question is needed so now that I have drawn out a scenario my question is this:

"What are the best hang over cures??? What are the worst???

Coffee and Fry Up's have never done much for me.

Water is not great unless I have it before bed then my hydration level is much better.

The McDonald thick shake is usually a nice soother.

Hair of the dog: Hit and miss- good in the short term.

Paracetamol & codeine alka-seltzer type tablets and then a nap.

Time.

You will feel better tonight when your liver has finished syphoning blood back into your toxic blood stream.

Sleep too, but that just makes the sickie time pass quicker.

Re: The Hangover Thread

In the UK if I couldn't tough it out it would be something like "resolve" first thing and then once I felt like I could keep it down a bacon+egg sandwich on white bread with brown sauce.

Not sure what the Canadian equivalent of resolve is.

I had a few glasses of wine when I got home. Feeling fine. Just thinking about heading out for a nice curry for lunch and a couple of Kingfishers

Current Calgary Stampede hangover cure is to get your hat and boots back on then go find a free pancake breakfast, before starting it all over again...

James, it must have been that dodgy Hawaiian beer you had - I too feel decidedly un-hungover this morning... lmartin's curry suggestion has got me thinking it's about lunchtime - I think a chicken & avocado sandwich and a beer on the deck sound about right.

As for hangover cures, a strong and spicy bloody mary usually does the trick for me. Followed by a large floury bun filled with sausage, bacon, egg and mustard.

I actually ended up in a couple of bars on King West with my house mate, his cousin and two other gents. It was another 3 pints and two shots before I stumbled home and going to bed at around 1.40.

Just had a BLT and Sweet Potato fries. Still hungover to hell.

Sleep isn't an effective hangover cure when you have to be at work. I actually like Oink's idea.

The raw egg thing is one of those wive's tails.

Now that explains it...

I think you are just going have to wait it out.

Although it seems an excellent proposition at the time, it's never a good idea on a school night.

That hangover *feeling* is basically dehydration.

You need an isotonic sports drink. Also drinking water with every pint will offset alot of pain the next day, although I recognise ytou are not able to go back in time. I quite like a pint of soda water with a slice of lime with each drink.
