Well - I haven't downloaded the pics yet, but just sent mine off with the neighbours - 2 quads and a trailer full of kids - dead rock star, nerd, pirate and hippy - dads are dressed as normal (chickens!). The scary music is blaring, lights are flashing and skeletons are warning all to stay away (good thing there's 4 acres between us and the neighbours). I'm home alone to give out candy - ha, haaa, haaaa, haaa, haa (evil laughter).

We bought this lovely thing and hung it outside but some of the smaller kids didn't see it so must arrange to hang it lower next year. We live and learn after all it is our first Halloween. :D

Our neighbourhood is full of kids (we're within walking distance of 2 elementary schools), but we only had about 9 kids last night, with an average age of about 3, so I'm glad we didn't do anything too scary. Highlights were Spongebob and the Cat in the Hat (about 5 years old) who were so excited they'd actually rung the bell, opened my front door and were standing in the foyer by the time I'd actually gotten to the door from the kitchen (the dads were yelling at the kids, but it was cute - we don't lock our doors around here during the day if we're home). Then there was the 2 year old Superman who didn't want to be trick or treating and almost fell off our porch in his hurry to get back to Mom. I think the winner was one of our neighbours, they were taking their 13 month old out for her first Halloween. She was dressed as a skunk, but apparently is at the age where strangers freak her out, so they decided that 2 houses was enough for the first year :)

Now i just have to figure out what to do with all this left over candy, since I'm allergic to it all!

We didn't have many kids either, only around 10. More surprisingly was when the kids shout "Trick or Treat" and we answered "trick" they looked at us blankly, so we then replied 'treat' - still got blank looks. Obviously to them it's not a question. Kids back in Scotland had to 'work' for their sweeties by either tell a joke, sing or do a magic trick.

Now what are we going to do all our left-over candy too? Keep them away from me that's for sure ;)

aww how sweet......i loved the little ones too!........i had at least 40 kids here last night........after the little ones stopped coming round...and then we had the mid age of around 9-11....we stopped.....turned off the lights etc...there wasn't any more after about 7.30ish anyways.

We got lots of comments on our Jack-o-Lanterns....and some even commented on how lovely everything looked and not too scary for the little ones:)

I took my son to the neighbours and wow.it was so lovely to see the happy faces on the people as they opened the door and he was standing there in his little skull mask etc...he is 9 and it was realy the first year he felt confident to go up to the door etc......one place we went to which is up a side street from our place..the lady was so happy because he was her only trick or treater.....she gave him heaps of candy and came out and was waving to me saying thank you! thank you!....now if nothing else..that made it all worth it..and my son was so happy!!!! he had made her happy!!!!...we then went to another house just down from hers..and the same thing.....the man came out and was waving to me and saying ..Happy Halloween!!!

I love our neighbourhood even more now.

this is our little flower (she'll never forgive us for that, I suspect), our scarey leopard, and a couple of our jack-o'lanterns. We had slighly fewer visitors than last year, but following the same pattern: little kids with parents in tow from around 6pm, progressing through to small groups of mid-teens and all wrapping up by about 8.45. We've got loads of candy left over which I've donated to the office kitchen today in a vain attempt to stop eating it all myself!

My OH loves Haloween and decorates the house every year. Kids talk to each other on the streets during the evening and word gets about so they all come from far and wide to see what my OH has done each year. He's the one in the hairy mask at the back in the 3rd photo. What the photo doesn't show are the evil sounds coming out of our darkened house, played through on the stereo. My OH comes out from the dark saying, 'Wadddddda you waaaaaant,' in an evil and scarey voice. The spider to the right of the door is sound activated and runs down the wall with flashing eyes, the white ghosts, woohoohoo eerily, the skeleten to the left of the door, vibrates and flashes red eyes, there's a mouse on the ground that invariably some kid treads on so it squeaks, and some kids, both young and old, are really freaked out by it all, until my OH takes off his mask and produces a basket of sweets. A neighbour and I stood on the other side of the road for ages watching the kids reactions, it really was so funny to watch.
We didn't see much of our own kids cos they went off to the surrounding streets in a group, so no pics of them, other than the last one, where both my son and OH are teaming up for the big pumpkin face. (It's on the table in the 1st photo). It's huge isn't it? Given to us by one of the old folk around the corner who have an allotment.

Have already posted these pics on another thread, but happy to do so again.

1st. My first ever pumpkin carving effort, am pleased with it.

2nd. We all went with a theme for the kids, the other pumpkins were a bit more complex than mine.

Hi I know I'm a bit late checking out this thread but I LOVE your pumpkins - did you draw the characters on yourselve and then cut them out or use templates? If you used templates where do you get them from as we havn't been in Canada long and were living in an apt block this year so didn't do pumpkins but can't wait to carve them next year for our new home.

Thanks in advance

There are loads available as free downloads (google "pumpkin template" - the ones from eHow looked pretty good) - we downloaded a few, but then bought a "pumpkin carving kit" for the princely sum of $4 from the Superstore, that had a booklet of templates and a couple of carving tools that made the job sooooo much easier than trying to use a kitchen knife (and a "goop scoop" scraper thingy that made scraping out the insides a lot easier too). Our "BOO" ghost and the witch's face in the photos in post #17 were from these templates (I wish I could claim otherwise, but I'm not that good at drawing on flat paper, never mind on a pumpkin!)

Awwww, thank you so much. It was my first ever try, and i was so pleased.

We printed teh templates off from a Disney site, and i then picked the simplest one for myself. Friends and i got together with a bottle of wine one night and did them for the kids, we had fun.

Before that night i didnt even know the pumpkin carving tools and templates existed - well worth it.

Seriously they're brilliant.

Not sure the whole wine and pumpkins tools are a good mix though:rofl:

Thanks again - can't wait till next year now.
