Guitar Mad People

Anyone play guitar, or learning, or just collect guitars because they look good?

I have a few and a 1/2 decent Peavey Amp. I just play enough to get me into trouble, mostly Floyd stuff, some Hip and the odd AC/DC and Metallica riff ;)

Have an electrified acoustic, a Fender Squire Strat and a recently refurbished Vintage Hondo 1986 solid body Les Paul copy, man that one sounds good, twin hum buckers give an awesome sound.

Anyone, any pics of your treasures? I will add a pic when I get home.

Does air guitar count?

I actually used to use an old walking stick. The crook handle would 'hook' into my pocket.

My main amp is a Fender Bassbreaker and I have more pedals than I know how to deal with.

My credit card wobbles every time I go near my local guitar store.

If you wish to improve, or simply learn how to play any number of songs, this guy is my go to man: https://www.justinguitar.com/

I am at the office at the moment, so this is the only one I can provide a picture for. (Edit: site won't allow me to upload it)

I know what you mean about buying stuffs, Resist !!

I will look at that web page when I get home, looks good, I mostly use you tube and Tab from Ultimate Guitar dot com.

Be sure to add some pics laters :@)

Sacrilege. One can never have enough guitars.

I have promised myself that, once I can play Nothing Else Matters, using a looper and performing all the parts (as best as one can with a looper) I will buy myself a Fender Telecaster (yellow). It's not that hard a song but I haven't got round to doing so yet. (worked out the intro and the solo but not the middle bit)

Great to have a goal

i like to play first half of Pink Floyd's brain-damage then follow by Us and them then I play the start of In the flesh, and follow on with the first part of The Wall, that works for me !! Also learning shit loads more but I forget the chord progressions the next day lol

I def need most of my stuff written down that's for sure

Currently learning Pigs three different ones, inspired by going to see Roger Waters

Then i go to sleep and dream I am this good:

I hate the way good guitar players make it look so effortless.

I only play about an hour a day, which is nowhere near enough to get good. I wish I had started when I was a kid. All those hours with so little to do!

Guitar mad, but only as a listener. Also bass mad and drum mad. The more I think about it, generally mad!

I have a drum kit too.

I have thought about buying a bass, a Uke and mandolin, but I wouldn't want my wife to have to consult with a local divorce lawyer.

I have a Cort electric acoustic and a lovely Peavey semi-acoustic, with a small Vox amp. Totally rubbish but I enjoy making a racket.

I've recently been trying to get the hang of open E tuning, trying the Keith Richards sounds... Honky Tonk Women is a great tune.

I have a ukulele. Does that count? It is bright orange, if that helps...

I'd love to learn guitar, but don't have the time to practise properly. The uke is easier to get to a point where you can accompany a campfire song, I reckoned. I also have a didgeridoo, which I am getting reasonably good at - had the circular-breathing thing licked a while ago, and can now do some of the more complicated rhythmic sounds and barks, as well as the drone.

I don't think I'd get a drum kit past SWMBO, but have asked for a cajon for my next birthday, so we'll see what happens :)

I think a Yuke is permissible for this Fred

My amp is a Peavey, I really like it, has a few extras on it, reverb, gain, valve sound and a EQ

So what is the most impressive song you can play?

I can play the vast majority of Sweet Child O Mine as either Slash or Izzy (the opening riff can be heard every day being played at just about every guitar shop anywhere in the world) but I can't get the wah part of the solo correct. Grrrr

Cool

Earlier this year, I started to focus upon playing with my fingers, rather than a pick. Still a major work in progress.

Apart from basic 3-4 chord songs I don't think I could play any single song all the way through without mistakes or relying on tabs.

It's like my daughter with the piano... dum-dum-dum - oh, hang on - dum-dum-der-dum -no, wait a minute - dum-dum - no that's not it ARRRRRRGGHH -slams lids down and runs upstairs.

My son is actually very very good on the bass. I've tried to play it but after the guitar the strings are too thick. Can play Human League's "Being Boiled" though which is a pretty cool bass line.

Re: Guitar Mad People

Hi everyone, great thread!

I started learning guitar about 3 years ago; I have a Fender Squire. I take a 1-hour in-person lesson once a week. I also love Justinguitar.com, he's brilliant!

About 18 months into learning guitar, I realized I like the bass lines to a lot of songs, so I bought a Fender Jazz bass and have been learning that for a year and a half (same teacher).

I'm definitely better suited to playing bass, I pick it up quicker and have more fun with it.

On both my guitar (black) and my bass (cherry red), I changed out the plain white pick guard for ones with a paisley print.

I have a good Fender bass amp, but only a very small guitar amp. My next purchase is going to be a better guitar amp.

I read tabs for both guitar and bass, and have just started learning to read real music on bass. I play Pink Floyd (just learned Empty Places and Young Lust on bass...soooo much fun!), Rush, Prince, a bit of Bee Gees, Robin Trower, Eagles, Moody Blues, etc.

Love hearing everyone's stories! I'll try to get a picture of my babies. lol

I used a cheat sheet with the chords, I knew the intro back then but forgot most of it now, keep meaning to relearn it but forget once I fire up the hunbuckers

The one song I can play well by finger picking is The Beatles "Blackbird". I can kind of play Dust in the Wind, but not as well.

I like finger picking, it's easier than picking with a plectrum....I think I have more control with my fingers.

The bass has a red paisley strap, too, but wasn't connected in that photo.

And yes, put Blackbird on your list of songs to learn, it's a good one!

Why do you have knives three feet off the ground? Is that so the kids can reach them?

I got that off my neibour for $20, with a hard case, it's a vintage 1986 Hondo, I had to buy a few parts for it, pick up screws/springs and the end plate was broke plus new strings, the parts was less than $30 on eBay, and it's now my fav rocking guitar, is a heavy bugger, with a long lasting sustain !! ;)

Our house was partly a fixer upper. We have renovated everything except the kitchen. That was the only place the magnetic strip could be fixed at the time we moved in. That countertop is very low (about 2 1/2 feet off the ground) so the knives are actually much closer to the ground than they look.

Also had a early 60's HOFNER GALAXY, the body was not painted but was covered in a sticky back plastic/vinyl covering, also had 2 MARLIN SIDEWINDERS which were good VFM budget guitars, don't make em any more they went broke.

Amps I had back in the day. AUDITION 3W no frills just input+vol+tone. BOX which was another Woolies amp which was made to look like a wooden packing crate, and a CUSTOM SOUND CUB30 reverb which I wish I still had.

I had a red Marlin Slammer strat I left in the UK with my Fender acoustic, my son has them on display at his home in blackpool

I remember them Ovation kits, the guitar came in a package with the amp ;) I bet they are rare now.

What made you decide to play left handed? While I accept that question may appear stupid, all the instructors that I have spoken to state that, as the actions with both hands are far from "normal", they would always advise lefties to play right handed so as to open up the numbers of instruments for them to be able to purchase.
