Cadbury 100g chocolate bars. Despite what some say about it being inferior to 'British' Cadbury choc, I still like them.

But WTF has happened to the price?

They've usually been around $1.70 but I never paid that much attention as so often the worst deal was 2 for $3. Far more often 4 for $5 and 3 for $4.

Now they seem to be as much as $2.49, far fewer offers than previously and you're lucky to get them around $2 each.

Even Shoppers which was usually most likely the best for them doesn't do better than 2/$4.

It's an outrage. And chocolate is an integral grocery item.

The place with cheap British chocolate biscuits here was Sears Bargain Centre and it's almost empty now.

I really don't think Sears will be around much longer.

I went into a Sears in Feb. Looked like a junk store. No organization and dirty cluttered store with lots of empty display cases and stock so old tags and some clothing faded.

Not sure why they just dont throw in the towel. Pretty clear they have given up.

They did give up, the Bargain Centre here went into liquidation mode 2 or 3 months ago, it's like Target when they crapped out. It's too bad because I used to be able to get jeans and shoes really cheap there at one time, not to mention all the snacks. Besides all the Cadbury's chocolate and Waterford or whatever the liquorice was, there were dozens of Polish candies and cookies that were pretty good. I know it's impossible but I would have liked them to keep the bargain/disposal store and kill the downtown department store, (which I never use).

Pork shoulder roast (included a very small bone) with rind for crackling $0.99/lb, total cost $4.70

Stripped the rind, salted & cooked in its own dish in the oven, enough cracking for 3 people

With leftovers, seven meals in total + enough for a couple sandwiches

The cauliflower index has risen again and is now $5.99. Not that I bought any.
I did get a death date chicken for $8 and some ground pork so I'll cook up a roast dinner ce soir.

Came home from grocery store with fennel (don't ask, had a brain-fart, was intending to buy something else, but...).

Any suggestions What to do with it? I don't think I've ever cooked or prepared it before.

regular part of the diet in our house, always have it around

Wife cuts chunks off it as is & chews on it as you would with celery. She has the sweetest breath ;)

Basic cooking that includes 'Fennel' goes into in soups, stews, casserole, salads.

She also has a container of 'fennel seeds' and to no surprise includes it in most everything.

Worse is her 'fetish' of cinnamon

Turmeric after that, goes in when boiling rice, cooking butternut squash - all sorts of things, that I have no idea that we are including all of the above in most everything we eat

Daughter has a mix together of turmeric & solid honey sandwiches

Delia has a yum recipe that stuffs bell peppers with tomatoes, herbs, fennel, olive, then bakes. Very nice with dippy bread.

There seem to be an awful lot of offers on coffee lately.

My personal choice is the President's (;) Dark of course) from Loblaws/Superstore and between them and Shoppers it's often available at $8 or $9 for a big tin. 875g.

But whereas I used to make do with a Taster's Choice/Nescafe Colombian Instant when I didn't want to make a pot, I now use pods in the Keurig machine.

There have been so many offers for 12 packs, 30 or 40 where the pod price is around 50c. I don't think that's bad, especially as my mother in law gets a second use after I've used one.

Today, Superstore even had a pick'n'mix selection of single pods for 50c each. There were even plenty of dark ones and it's those that usually go quickly whenever there is a good deal on.

Pork chops 99c lb again. Chickens $1.99lb.

My major fortnightly shop came in under $100 yesterday, weird because they had pea meal haunches on special plus frozen pork loins and I stocked up on both. $100 is the tap threshold and I always just clear that.
