First ‘Voila’ delivery from Sobeys today. Set fee ($7.99? - I didn’t do the order, which is why it contains hardly anything useful) and the drivers came in branded shirts in a liveried truck so I am assuming it’s an employee based system rather than the ‘gig’ model. Minimum $50 order.

Appears they use their own employees for the delivery part. The packing part in the warehouse appears to be robots.

Save On out west has been doing their own delivery for several years, they were really a head of the game in BC, and use their own employees, they pay $17/hr but employees are not allowed to accept tips.

I kind of prefer the Save On way using humans, at least that provides more lower skill jobs for those who need such jobs.

The app had no facility to give a tip. I didn’t offer one to the two guys who delivered.I know the Tesco drivers weren’t allowed, and I haven’t had any actual cash for months anyway.

The app is also advertising driver vacancies at $18/hr. I don’t think Ocado ever went far enough north in the UK for us to use them, but I would definitely use this service again.

Most likely not allowed to take tips, $18 isn't bad, I'd consider such a job for $18/hr....

The flashfood app for a store that usually doesn't have much offered 4 racks of lamb and 4 legs of lamb at half price about an hour ago and they're down to the last 2 legs now. I think people with freezers are monitoring for bargains. Another store sold over $200 worth of half price halal chicken and stewing beef in about 40 minutes. It's fun to check, but I really have to be aware of what I can use and what I won't. Sometimes a pass is in order.
edit; in the time it took to post, another leg of lamb sold, leaving the smallest one for about $15 and change.

Wal-Mart has these new Mexican appetizer box in the frozen section, they are pretty good, $7 for the box with 34 items inside so per item its pretty cheap. The little tacos inside remind me of home, very close to Jack in the Box tacos just smaller....

They are actually made in Mexico too according to the box.

Surprised they were good, a lot of Mexican like foods are not so good, but these are not bad at all.

Maybe our store has them on sale? Double checked the receipt, I was 97 cents off, they were $7.97 but still $3 cheaper than IC price which is odd, as nearly everything in Wal-Mart on IC is typically same price as in store, but I guess it's possible it could be a regional or local pricing method not available in all stores, Wal-Mart prices can vary store to store even within the same region depending on what the competition is doing.

I just picked up a couple of lamb chops, a package of lean Angus ground beef, and a carton of baby arugula and spinach off flashfood for about $7.20. Possibilities are endless.
I think I still have some mint jelly.

Some things. I look at the 'sales' section for Walmart on Instacart and there's stuff there not mentioned in the flyer but a very good deal. A lot of things in the flyer are just not reduced on IC and some are but not by as much.

IGA charges $10 delivery and $4 for putting it together in store. But because the flyer prices are available I can save about $40 every time I use it so after the service fees and driver tip I'm still quids in.

Rib Eye steak down to $12 lb this week. Usually $27 there although about $24 at other stores here.

I bought a beef roast on flashfood this morning, thinking I would cut it into steaks and freeze them, then they posted packs of sirloin tip steaks so I bought one of those as well. Good thing because the roast was nothing like the picture on the app! Instead of 2 big steaks in the picture I got 4 smaller ones (not a problem), and I also bought a $6 tub of field greens and baby spinach for .54. When I went to pick it up with my plastic shopping bag in my pocket, a greeter at the door was handing out free cooler bags, which was very handy. For $22.81 I think I did alright.
