Don't know about inventing, but the Tudor's were Welsh.
Then there was Welshman Richard Williams (or Richard ap William as it would have been), who ended up as Sir Richard Williams and lived in Huntington.
Henry VIII thought the Welsh 'ap' thing would go against him and persuaded him to go under his brother-in-law, Thomas Cromwell's surname. His great grandson Oliver, then helped remove a future king.
The Roman's referred to the Welsh as Breton's and the Breton land included Merseyside, Cumbria and South West Scotland.
