Yes. It is doing much more than what it says on the tin. It connects to Wi-Fi and streams stuff like Netflix, iPlayer, etc on its own. That combined with its stubborn DNS (see my other posts) makes iPlayer unwatchable without Schnooks workaround

Any idea what the outcome would be if I bought a Chromecast in the UK and tried to use that here...?

I *think* it works but it's worth a google. I bought mine in the US and it works fine in Canada...

Yes, they do a US compatible model on Amazon - actually slightly cheaper than the Ca one.

Should be alright with the appropriate plug adaptor/new lead cord.
