Goods allowed for shipping

Goods allowed for shipping
Hi there,
I have been trawling the CBSA website looking for a detailed list of goods allowed to be shipped to Canada.
I am frantically packing as the removal people are coming on Tues and my shipping people are closed on Saturdays so I can't ask them any questions today :/
I know that paint etc are not allowed in containers as they are a fire hazard, but does anyone know if things such as nail varnish and hair dyes are allowed.
I thought there might be a section where you can write an item in a box and it says Yes or No like the air freight one I have found.
I keep clicking on links which sound like that they might shed some light on the CBSA site and they come up as an error
Any help would greatly be appreciated
Many thanks

Re: Goods allowed for shipping
Hi there,
We just moved out 3 months ago and had stuff shipped via a small shipping company. We were told:
- no liquids/chemicals at all - so def no hair dye (I think I may have put nail varnish in but I prob shouldn't have)
- no food & drink items
- no plant material (so no seeds/plants etc)
- no batteries - don't forget to take them out of everything
- and obviously no firearms/ammunition
We were warned that if they opened a box at random and found anything on there, they can seize all the boxes and it can take longer & cost more to process. I'm guessing you don't want any more hassle than is necessary during the emigrating process. Good luck with everything and hope t goes smoothly!

Re: Goods allowed for shipping
Unfortunately CBSA does not have an all encompassing list of goods you can ship as there are numerous regulations that are not goverened by CBSA.
Shippers should be able to provide you with a list that they can and cannot carry. Its a crap shoot but here are our regulations. As you dont specifically state what status you have I will send you the Settlers in Canada link.
Most goods are treated the same anyway.

http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/imp/airse.shtml# for food products.
P.S. We dont hassle people

Thanks, that's what I thought.
How did going through the customs go ? Did they open anything and check ?
I'm dreading the fact that they may open something and find something I have packed inadvertently which I shouldn't have

Hi Former Lancastrian,
Thanks a lot.
I will give it a look over, there is so much to remember and I really want to do everything right. The shipping people came around the other day and laughed at our bikes because we had cleaned them so much that they looked like new
Thanks a lot.

I have looked at the d2-2-1 list before and can't see a bit about shipping hazard-des items, I know that the shipping guy said no aerosals or chemicals and gave me a list, however it doesn't really break down into different categories: ie: Chemicals - cleaning fluids, nail varnish, hair dye etc - or Flammable i:e - Lighter fluid, glue etc.
I guess I'll just have to wait until Monday and ring the shipping company up again.
Thanks !

Re: Goods allowed for shipping
Like I said those types of goods are not covered by CBSA legislation.
Try this link as it links to certain products

Re: Goods allowed for shipping
As long as they dont contain more than 100 ml of liquid and fit in that plastic bag that airport screeners provide you with
And to add for clarification airport screeners in Canada wearing the white shirts with the CATSA patch on ARE NOT CBSA employees or border people.
Bitch at them instead of us

Re: Goods allowed for shipping
I dont think nail varnish is high on the list of our priorities unless it happens to be on the fingernails of a really bad person.
BTW nail varnish freezes so be aware of that and that Canada has several well equipped stores that SELL nail varnish.

Re: Goods allowed for shipping
Hi all,
I'm shocked and stunned also, that nail varnish is sold in Canadian stores
Between my daughter and myself we have over 100 nail varnishes and nail varnish detailing liquids, seems a shame to ditch it all.
I know nail varnish isn't top of my list of priorities at the moment, but everytime I pick something up to put in a box I'm thinking, should I pack this, am I allowed ?
A list of detailed allowed stuff would be a great help
I also have mega amounts of batteries and re-chargeable batteries and it is going to kill me to have to give them all away
I only ever have to put a lip balm in the little bag, can you fill it up as much as you can with stuff under 100ml per container ?
I don't intend to bitch at anyone. I may snarl a bit at my 15 year old daughter after a long day flying/travelling but I fully intend to be my nice self to all the good people of Canada

Re: Goods allowed for shipping
i was worried about similar, was thinking about packing as if i was moving down the road. then i had a reality check...
the cupboard under the sink. most of that stuff i got at asda, and havent used, so when i get to walmart, i can buy the two bottles of stuff i actually use and a few brushes and sponges and the rest can go to mum.
i was stocking up on stuff at the £ shop then realised A) i cant take it and B ) they do have dollar stores!
im shipping minimum, just sentimental and expensive stuff. plates etc im replacing when i get there, taking cutlery with us in baggage ( hold not plane) cos i do love my ikea cutlery ( and it cost a packet) but nail varnish, i recon youd be as well to treat yourself when you get there.
