How We Got to Now on Netflix is really enjoyable. Good family watch, we were all entertained, and I remembered lots of things I thought I'd forgotten

Not my cup of tea. A bunch self-satisified and smug people sitting round laughing at their own jokes, with an audience that seemed even more annoying.

I stomached about 10 mins of it before I turned it off. It just seemed to be a middle-aged woman wandering listlessly around quietly judging everyone while saying to herself, "oh look, I’m only sane one around here, ha ha ha."I just wanted to shout, “drink a Red Bull and take some responsibility for your actions you old bat!”

Well I don't know how it progresses and whether she adapts but you might want to make allowances for a character just bereaved after a terminal illness and on the day of her husband's funeral.

She has every reason to be...unsettled?

I'm not saying this from my own experience, it's just that in future episodes we may see the kind of reaction you want.

Fair enough, I'll give another episode a butchers and see if it gets any better as there's slim pickings on tv in the summer. I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned London Spy, it was a while back but quite decent. And if you like Ben Whishaw's acting then Lilting was a good film.

Brilliant.

I was hooked halfway through the first episode. Gotta love the British sense of humour.

I have London Spy (and something called Spy - a comedy?) in my backlog waiting for me.

What was that comedy series about a woman who pretended her husband was terminally ill and then died when he hadn't?

There are similarities - in terms of cringeworthy characters - with Mum.

Yes, a bit slow to start with, but certainly well worth watching.

Was this the one. I remember watching it on BBC Canada (prior to Mike Holmes and Border Security hogging the schedule).

Yes, Nighty Night, thanks. On BBC Canada? Wow. I can't imagine it going down well.

I didn't really know what to make of it. There were some parts I thought hilarious, others irritating.

But it was a bit Car Crash TV and I kept thinking I'll just see how the next episode goes and I carried on with it.

Back then BBC Canada also showed League of Gentlemen which was a favourite of mine (filmed near where I lived). These days it is just a sad excuse of a channel still only in SD. Whoever owns it is not really interested investing to a HD version.

I remember in one episode that Julia Davis went for a blind date or something like that and the fellow she was dating described his personality as 'scottish'. It made me laugh at the time.
