Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?

Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?
Not sure if it has been mentioned on this thread, but I have watched all three seasons of Yellowstone on Amazon Prime. I have just got the final episode of season 3 to watch before season 4 is released later this year.
I got pretty addicted to it.... I see it as a modern day Western meets Goodfellas type show. Very dark, and gives you a very uneasy feeling. But I was glued to it. Very well cast, good acting. some great dialogue and good storylines. Not for the faint hearted!

I found season 1 to be really hokey and I gave up on it. But I have it on good authority that it pulled itself out of the dive in later seasons so it's worth revisiting now. Did you 'fans' like season 1?
I watched season 1 right after binge-watching 'Longmire', which I really enjoyed. So maybe that was part of the problem - very similar themes, but handled so much better in Longmire (IMHO).

I haven’t watched Longmire, but it is on my list.

I have started watching Baptiste on BBC iPlayer, it's about a French detective who tracks down missing people. I think it's a spin off from The Missing

Sometimes we just can't get into certain series as Jersey Girl says, who knows why, maybe its our frame of mind at the time.... or something like that. I remember watching Game of Thrones..... everyone around me was raving about it, I tried....I even watched the whole of the second series, but it just wasn't clicking for me.... so I gave up on it, just couldn't get into it. We all have our reasons for liking certain shows and movies, and others we don't. and sometimes we cant even explain why, We are complex creatures! lol

Yes a few people have said that, I don't think season 1 was as good as the rest, but I am glad I stuck with it... I found it was worth it. I haven't seen Longmire, but watching something very similar straight after would affect how you see it I think.... you can't help but compare, its what we do!

Below I've enclosed something in spoiler tags regarding Yellowstone, to protect anyone who hasn't seen it and doesn't want any plot revealed!

Frame of mind is very much a part of it, I believe. Generally/historically, I try really hard not to listen to the opinions of others before trying something so as to go in with an open mind, but these days, with so much material to choose from, one does appreciate 'reviews' of sorts. One of my pet peeves these days is the sheer volume of low-quality crap on (eg) Netflix. I'll start watching, on the assumption something must at least have some redeeming qualities, only to end up many hours later completely regretting the time spent! As for GOT - I'm on the side of those who think it's the best show ever made, and I've watched it, end-to-end, at least 10 times! I could watch it again tomorrow and I know I'd thoroughly enjoy it, even though I know virtually every line / plot twist by now! (though I did find myself thoroughly embarrassed after sitting with my mom through an episode or two while she was visiting; I'm totally OK with nudity / sex on TV, but somehow, sitting there with my mom, even though I was in my 50s at the time, still didn't feel right! )

Spoiler:
I think when I sit down to watch an American made movie or series, I subconsciously tell myself....this is Hollywood, its not realistic, but I am going to overlook these incidents for the point of being entertained for the time its on, Although even I can't overlook some events in some movies or series at times, I think thats why I always lean to watching British made stuff, but on this occasion I got pulled in!!

Yes, I see what you mean....good point. That part is unrealistic... however I find myself overlooking stuff like that as its part of hmmm how can I say it, "flim makers licence" I find this is used to excess in American made series and movies, British made series like Line of Duty, Happy Valley, Luther etc are way superior, purely because they are more believable, realistic and gritty, and dont rely too much in "licence".

I think 'Bosch' was a good recent example of a US show that didn't get too unrealistic. I also seem to recall that the aforementioned 'Longmire' was well constructed in terms of plot plausibility.

Sorry. I don't have Britbox but have Acorn but may switch to Britbox later in the year when the Acorn 1 year subscription ends and switch between the two. What do you find is worth watching on Britbox.

Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?
I used Acorn TV until about 3 years ago changed to Britbox because i had watched all the progs i wanted to on Acorn and they were slow to add new progs. Progs i have watched on Britbox
Luther, Ashes to Ashes, Insp Frost, DCI banks, Jonathan Creek, Intruder, Rebus, Line of duty, Honor, The Unforgiven, Body Farm, The Bay, Silent Witness, Bancroft.
Find Britbox is very good VFM. I ditched cable TV got tired of paying $100 for crap content. now i just have Britbox, DAZN, Youtube, and any other tv sataions that can be watched free online, Knowledge network, CBC gem etc OH and of course Test match special on the wireless.
