You would be surprised how many people in rural Alberta sympathise with Trump and support his "back to basics" blue collar rhetoric, as deeply flawed as it may be.
Trump might look, from the point of view of a comfortable liberal, like a loose cannon and a renegade.. but from the point of view of someone who isn't comfortable and who's witnessed and continues to witness the political and wealthy classes feathering their nests, often legally questionable, he represents a straw they are happy to grasp. Like he said, 'What the hell have you got to lose'. What the establishment, including the mainstream media, have failed to grasp is that the more they try to highlight his perceived faults, the more his core support will stand by him. Trump understands this and deliberately plays to his audience. It's a little like a parent laughing at a kid's tantrum, the kid just doesn't get it and his screams just get louder and louder to no effect. |

Just have to hope that in 1,380 days the voters will say your fired to Trump.
and in 652 days democrats can take control over the House of Representatives and senate. Republicans have been voicing their optimism about being able to attain 60 Senate seats after the 2018 election, since 10 out of the 23 seats that are held by Democrat incumbents are in states that were won by Trump. Flipping those seats to Republican however may become a challenge, because Republicans can't point towards Clinton as a reason to vote Republican, but Democrats can certainly point towards Trump as a reason to vote Democrat - especially if Trump maintains or diminishes his popularity. I think that it's a big concern with Republican strategists - should Trump continue to incite controversy and opposition, will it keep voters engaged in the day-to-day 'scandals' such that it could impact their results in 2018 and 2020? Will it cause voters, who don't typically vote Democrat, or vote at all, to come out in significant numbers and unseat Republican incumbents? For Trump supporters, even if he is successful in bringing back jobs to some states (remember that a large percentage of his supporters were either retired, or working prior to the election), will that jobs growth outweigh the impact that the Republican health care plan will have on peoples' wallets? |

A win-win and who's to argue with him when he continues to attract so much 'bad' publicity. It's a lesson that Obama failed to learn and exploit. |

A interesting aspect of the Trump 'story' has been the antagonism and obstruction that he has encountered and continues to encourage, especially from the repubican side. In this respect it won't matter whether he's successful in any of his ventures or not, all that he needs to project is a well publicised programme that he's attempting these things. If he succeeds then he'll claim responsibility and if he fails he'll point to the existing establishment, especially from the majority republicans, as those who blocked him.

I would agree hat he my try to pin the blame on others, but those 'others' are the people running for re-election in 2018. Trying to blame the Democrats, with Republican control of both the House and Senate won't fly, so the only choice is Republicans - which will simply splinter the Republicans even further. |

I was looking at photos of Trump signing his executive orders and I thought he looked arrogant and full of self importance.
But it occurred to me that I'd not seen photos of predecessors doing it. So I googled Obama and Bush. There really was a difference. Trump was full on. His expression was that eyes nearly closed look of nonchalance regarding what he was doing. He was full on, one hand holding the document, the other signing. All quite formal with the people around all standing a distance back and mostly rigid as if they daren't cough or smile even. (noticeable, too, that after the criticism of a lack of women in the first ones, there were some in the next ones ) Obama looked so much more relaxed, sometimes a smile...you could imagine a joke, he was often sideways, the other people more at ease...it all looked a lot less formal like he was just making a note of something. Bush looked the same. I dunno, maybe he's just less at ease being new in the job or maybe I'm seeing something not there. |
Re: God save America
Mexican President has cancelled the meeting he was to have with Trump next week.
Trumps tweet: “If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting,†Trump tweeted. “The U.S. has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico. It has been a one-sided deal from the beginning of NAFTA with massive numbers… of jobs and companies lost.†Followed by Mexican Presidents tweet: “This morning we have informed the White House that I will not attend the meeting scheduled for next Tuesday with the @POTUS,†the Mexican president said. “Mexico reiterates its willingness to work with the United States to achieve agreements in favour of both Nations.†Followed by this from Trump later in thw day but not on twitter. “The president of Mexico and myself have agreed to cancel our planned meeting scheduled for next week,†Trump said. “Unless Mexico is going to treat the United States fairly, with respect, such a meeting would be fruitless and I want to go a different route. We have no choice.†|
Re: God save America
On the TV news footage, Trump looked quite relaxed and cheerful, probably pleased to be undoing Obama's hard work. I don't think you can read to much into such scenes though.

90- day ban on entry for anyone from Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
Exceptions for diplomatic visas. 60 days for other countries to provide necessary info Trump wants, if not provided citizens from those countries will be barred from travel to the US. Various departments ordered to review what info the US Gov't needs to vet visitors and provide a list of countries that don't provide said info. State Dept ordered to stop issuing visas to Syrian nationals and halt the processing of Syrian refugees. Remains in effect until Trump has determined enough security changes have been made. 4 month suspension of broader refugee program. Cuts number of total refugees by half to 50,000 for this budget year, was originally set at 110,000 by Obama. Exceptions made to refugees claiming persecution due to their religion if their religion is a minority religion, such as Christians in a Muslim country. Prioritizing Christians could be unconstitutional. Trump's sweeping executive order bars all Syrian refugees from entering U.S. - World - CBC News |

Nobody actually expects a politician to do any of the things he'd promised to do out of office. It comes as a bit of a shock when you have to dig deep and remember what he has promised in order to prepare yourself for the next bombshell... The only effective opposition he has are the republicans themselves and they must be feel as though they've a tiger by the tail. |

As confusion reigned, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security made a striking admission when she told Reuters people holding so-called green cards, making them legal permanent US residents, were included in the ban. “It will bar green card holders,†wrote Gillian Christensen, acting DHS spokeswoman, in an email. |
