How about this is Canada and hockey is the national sport (well it and lacrosse)?

And for the love of God, it is not called 'iced hockey', it is just hockey.

NHL Hockey

I'm actually surprised fitba and basketball aren't a bigger deal here...but it could be because there are no major league teams for those here...

There is no national sport in Toronto. It is just hop on the next bandwagon.

Today everyone happens to be a big boxing fan and expert despite no one in the bar ever mentioning it before.

Basketball was the national sport last week.

Next week it will probably be Based Ball.

Iced hockey is the big winter game and CFL football is in summer except on the east coast where there are no teams, and baseball is only semi-big because there are only 2 Canadian teams. If you're in TO or Montreal it's big. Colchar, on BE it's iced hockey, get used to it.

Are you sure?

. I stand corrected. Not much of a fan, obviously. I think the last time I actually followed the BlowJays in a series the Expos still existed.

Now, as it turns out, I'm a bit of a baseball fan so I think I'll take umbrage at the BlowJays remark.

But, quite frankly, the only city in Canada where all North American professional sports are on offer is Toronto.

It's just that none of the Toronto teams are ever even slightly competent.

Edit: the lacrosse team have had their excellent years, so I guess that's the exception.

It's to be expected I suppose since Toronto's the biggest city in Canada (though I remember when Montreal had that honour) and no one's even mentioned Toronto FC. In the end it's all about whether or not a community can support the franchise. Does anyone care about lacrosse unless their children play it? I think curling has a much larger following.

Um, you know the Bluejays won the World Series twice, right? And the Raptors aren't too bad.

I still remember when the Marines brought the Canadian flag in at the World Series game upside down. And the other classic momeny was when they starting singing the national anthem in Toronto and the Americans in the audience stood up and suddenly realized they hadn't got a clue what the words were.

Could only 'watch' the boxing on Twitter, but looked exciting in a series of 30 second clips. Surprised at the result. Also, for you James, an interview with some of team...

Yes I remember those years too. But, in case you hadn't noticed, it's 2015 now.

The Raptors can be fun to watch, but I can't imagine them winning much any time soon.

We'll leave the Maple Leaves out of the conversation and while the Argos have won the odd Grey Cup it doesn't really count when there are only a handful of teams and they juggle the same old NFL rejects among themselves each year. Someone's bound to win it, but it doesn't matter who.

Toronto FC? Let's not go there either.
