is Gay Pride in Toronto a bit too much?
 

I've been wondering, we have about one month of Remembrance before Nov. 11th, something of relevance to all Canadians and Brits as well.

There is one whole month of Gay Pride month, for a comparatively small amount of Canadians.

And Canada Day is only around the Canada Day weekend, something of relevance to all Canadians.

As a matter of fact, only a small amount of Canadians identify of Lesbian or Gay, but all are Canadians. I think this is roughly 1 Million out of 40 Million Canadians. However in Toronto it seems Gay Pride is so strong, it makes it look as if at least 20 Million of Canadians are gay or lesbian?

Thus I am wondering if Gay Pride is a bit too long and overblown in context of comparison of Canada Day and Remembrance.

One year, my daughter, the one who likes dancing on floats, was in the Pride parade. She was also in the Caribana parade. I thought that was a bit much; not queer, not West Indian, celebrating anyway. Cultural appropriation, innit?

Most gays couldn’t give a flying fig about Pride. It’s long since become a big day out for middle class straight ‘allies’.

I don't think that's true in redneck Canada. I think attending, or participating in, say, the Regina pride parade, is still a brave and significant thing. Toronto, yeah, well, maybe. I don't think them visibly dangling dongs are attached to middle class straight 'allies'.

I've never minded the gay pride celebrations in London UK, they were usualy on one day or over a couple of days, nor do I mind if they have their own gay bars and clubs.

Well, for the past whole month, or nearly month we all have heard this ugly singing of some gay choir on the TTC where in the beginning nobody really knew what it was.
Then the city was full of strangely dressed charakters and one had to see parts of some human's anatomiy which wasn't even beautiful. I find that utterly and abjectively gross.

Also love is not about who makes the most colorful noise or constant presence in the public.

It would be a lot better if gay and lesbian would be more normal, in their behaviour as well as in the way they dress.

Ha! I was going to post on this thread that asking gay people to be less gay is bonkers, you may as well ask black people to be less black. It would seem that satire is dead.

Other than some brands switching their logos to a rainbow colour on LinkedIn I hadn't noticed Pride was on in Toronto.

The last Remembrance Day I remember some angry dinosaur iced hockey pundit was complaining about people downtown and milk and honey otherwise I hadn't noticed it either.

I know when Canada Day is on because it's everywhere- comfortably the most offensive and nauseating day of the year. It's bad enough being asked to rise for anthems and remove my hat at sporting occasions. Patriotic hogwash. There is a day off work though which makes it a little palatable.
