The system here used to be that your road tax on a diesel depended on how many miles you drove each year (within sweden). Diesel was also almost half the price of gas per litre. Then they raised the diesel prices and did away with the mileage calculated roadtax. Then they figured Diesel was more harmful to the environment and as more people were driving diesels for the fuel economy, they increased the tax to anywhere between $1000-$1500. It can be cut down in half by registering the car as a truck but then you're only allowed 1 passanger in the car, should remodel it, remove the back seat, add a load grill etc etc. So yes, diesel cars here are high tax vehicles and now diesel cost almost the same as gas. Go figure.

Considering how p*ss*d off I am at my Volvo right now, I'll never own one again ever.

How many people take make long road trips regularly?

60KM each way 5 days a week-cannot afford to move closer to work- housing is too expensive.

In regards to your 19 year old variant or another covered by warranty?

Who is the pain....a dealer or Volvo themselves?

Actually, every single Volvo that has passed through my family has been a whole lot of trouble and cost a fortune in repairs. I vowed as a teenager to never own one. A few years ago I needed a car, a friend was selling, it ticked all the boxes so I bought it. It's been good up until about a year ago when it started acting up and have cost a bit in repairs. Not as much as any of my parent's volvo's (and also much younger). It's done well so far but the past few issues, which are heavily escalating lately, has me put off of Volvo's. I'll have a Toyota, Ford, Hyuyndai, Saab, VW, Chevy or Chrysler any day.

Being a European car the parts will be rare and pricy in Canada.
