Also. Invest in a vacuum sealing system. No more freezer burnt food wasted

Finally purchased a chest freezer last year and it has made life so much easier (having just a poxy UK fridge otherwise). I keep a quick inventory on my phone of what's in there. Not running out of things anymore.

Siouxie, that's impressive. German heritage?

Ordinary ziplocs seem to do the job quite well, squeezing what air you can out. We've had perfectly good stuff from 3 or 4 years earlier sometimes, even from its own original packing.

Does it make a difference if you are storing food for more than two?
Think of it as a chest freezer standing on its end with shelves - the footprint is smaller and its much easier to access. I have a fridge freezer and the large upright freezer. Fridge space is an issue but in time it will be replaced with a fridge only unit. I have a couple that rent my basement but are long haul truckers so hardly here. The fridge space is an issue when they are here but the freezer space is not a problem.

What an organized bunch you are I'm thinking of kidnapping you collectively to put right my kitchen chaos.

I have an upright. However, don't know if it's the spirit of the East Coast hoarding mentality, but when I see something on a special offer I 'do a Bristol'...jam 10 lots of chops in the freezer, for that special rainy day....

The chest freezer in the corner of the kitchen only occupies the space it stands on.

A unit with a door on occupies extra space when the the door opens. It's significant in our kitchen.

No...I went looking for your salami but I only found the bacon/salami one.

That sounds dangerous. I'm not sure if the greater danger comes from the steps up to it or it falls on your head.

How about one that folds up to the wall like those beds?
