The Four months of not winter - 2020

Re: The Four months of not winter - 2020
Yeah its a hot one in several deserts around the world.
Death Valley is forecast to reach 50C to 51C today as well.
Currently 42C, Palm Springs is 44C currently expected to reach 48C to 49C
Forecast is showing 38C for Kelowna today on weather network and 36 on Environment Canada, but I do find at times EC forecasts always seem a few degrees cooler vs weather network.
Currently 27C or 29C depending on the weather website, and cloudy in Kelowna.

Re: The Four months of not winter - 2020
So. California is having a massive heatwave well the entire west coast is, we are having the same heat wave as they are, we just have less extreme regions, but the deserts of So. California can get very toasty, especially toasty out in Death Valley.
Talked to my mom night before last, due to electricity demand outstripping supply (the article touches on it as well) they have to deal with scheduled blackout's, so she goes for a drive during the blackout's as her house gets too hot, they are only 1-2 hours long but when its 45-50 outside, doesn't take long for a house to heat up once the air con is not running.
Of course San Diego is being invaded by zonies during the heat wave.

Looks like death valley will be cooler today, only expected to be 52.
Supposed to be 36 in Kelowna today, and already 28.

Based on all the pictures on Vancouver reddit, seems Vancouver area had a nice lighting show last night.
Up to 36C/97F so far today, mostly sunny with some clouds floating around.

The 4 months of not winter is ending, can feel the cool in the air and snow is forecast for Coquihalla Highway along with parts of the Okanagan Connector highway.
Snow level between 1,100 and 1,300 meters according to the warnings.
Nights in Kelowna around 1-3 degree range in the coming days, but the coldest nights are clear nights without storms.

Re: The Four months of not winter - 2020
Today we had blue sky and sunshine (unlike the last 2 days which have been grey sky and rain) but there's a definite chill in the air, nearly time for me to dig up my carrots, beetroots, celery etc., and take down the rabbit fence, allowing them to finish off the aphid ridden kale, broccolli, brussel sprouts and cauli's.. it's definitely almost over; forecast is for 11c daytime and 4c night time over the weekend.
I still find it really weird how the weather changes the day after 'labour day'... trees change colour, temperatures drop and the winds pick up.. dread it every year.

The camera is down right now, but click on replay the day to see how fast the snow came.

I checked hwy 3 cams this morning, and the summit of Kootenay Pass had a dump of snow about 6pm yesterday, reduced to wet road and a little slushy today.

Crazy how fast snow can fall. 2 winters ago when I was working at the airport still, it went from just cold but bare ground, to blizzard and everything covered in snow so fast, our plane landed and didn't show at the gate for almost an hour, we just watched the ramp get covered in snow to the point you could no longer see the painted markings, we had to guesstimate on where the parking block was, too much snow and the plow didn't make it to our gate before our plane.

Found the photo. Thank you google for saving everything.
I took this not long after it started, you can see we cleared it a bit, an hour later when the plane actually got to the gate, just snow, couldn't see any of the painted lines, and the area we cleared was covered. Sometimes I miss it. lol

This morning it’s -2 ‘feels like -5’ with a heavy frost. I hesitate to put it out there, in case it jinxes us, but the weather is, and has been, beautiful for a while now; sunny and crisp in the daytime, chilly at night, but little humidity. Please let it stay like this for a while, I’m really not ready for the frigid six month alternative, just yet.

After checking the forecast, I lit the boilers at work on Saturday. The caretaker is the one who decides when seasons change.

Then take that responsibility very seriously please Every year my office seems to endure a week in spring when we are absolutely glacial, and a week in fall when they make us endure Turkish bath like temperatures...Or vice versa, we never know what to expect...a gentle transition into the horrible next season would be appreciated
