Food for thought for some older members on here

In this case, why anyone would take comments on a place so personally is beyond me.

I don't hate Vancouver. I don't like it. I don't think it's fun like, say, Cincinnati or Salt Lake City and I'm puzzled over my child's willingness to live there but I think it's nicer than Regina, on par with Mississauga. I'd sooner move to Vancouver than Birmingham (either one). It's just not special.

Why nasty? That's what happened. It's a shame when posters decide they can't handle the forum, but it does seem to be the women posters more than the men. Or maybe we just leave more quietly, when we do.

Fine. Eff-you too. I'm outta here! <flounce>
Perhaps it's here where chaps don't seemingly flounce, but on other forums I'm on, there are lot of chaps who do indeed flounce out like a flouncy thing with extra flouncy bits.

Thus, the secret to life is not to have any goals and just go fishing.

I did that once in a rather important (at the time) meeting because my really rubbish idea for some policy change wasn't being taken with gravity that I thought it should of been. As I stormed out of the conference room, I told everyone to naff off and stick every naffing thing thing up their naffing bottoms and then I through my coffee out the window. Not one of my finest moments.

I think this essentially correct although I'd say reasoned critique based on experience, rather than mocking. It gets back to my point about humans are always seeking something, life is always seemly moving towards a goal. If we do not get the goal, then we remain dissatisfied, anything that we perceive as obstacles to our goal will cause suffering. I see it when people are trying to attain a doctoral degree. Any criticism of their progress, any advice that is not self-confirming and any suggestion their work is not going in the right direction, is mostly met with extreme hostility, usually towards their advisor yet when they finish their momentary sense of satisfaction is often followed by deflation and depression. The thing is, their goal has been met and that which motivated them has been extinguished.
Thus, the secret to life is not to have any goals and just go fishing.

Do you blame someone or just top yourself because life has become meaningless?

I think it's mainly people who have a very distinct cause and effect notion of life.

Only just started reading this thread.
I thought when it meant older members it was referring to age not tenure so I expected it to be that depressing frozen British pensions subject thing coming round again.
