Flooding Alberta!

Re: Flooding Alberta!
According to the news the main WWTP at Bonnybrook is discharging sewage to the River. The CNR bridge just downstream is damaged. No doubt lots of contaminated soil from old industrial sites along the riverbank generally has been scoured into the river - the park across the river from Bonnybrook is called "Old Refinery Park"............

Re: Flooding Alberta!
The radio-announcer just now (660 news) said the tanks contain ethanol. The current plan is to see if the bridge by this one is ok, then run another tanker/s up and pump the contents of the stricken containers across. Then they can look at retrieving the stranded carriages more safely, and the surrounding areas can be repopulated.
Having said that, they are often totally misinformed!

That's five tanks of booze. It will be saved. Stampede is coming up.

A couple of pics of Bragg Creek. Looking south from the Bridge you can see that someone has lost a chunk of their garden. The Infusion Restaurant was up to its ceiling in water.

Well I did have three other photos to post but they say I do not have permission to post (they belong to me) or that the Administrator may have blocked them

Perhaps you could upload them to your photo gallery here on BE, then give the link?

Re: Flooding Alberta!
All safe on the home front. Got stranded west side of the bridge for a couple of days. We are on high ground so no damage, but my heart goes out to all the people affected by the flood. It is heart breaking to see all their ruined belongings being taken up to the tip to be disposed of. This is round by the Trading Post at the end of Whites Avenue, the building looks as though it is going to fall down soon, and as you can see the road is washed away. To think we used to sit on a bench to the left of this road and watch the river meander by!

Re: Flooding Alberta!
On the radio they had some insurance bod who said that the reason there is no overland flood insurance in Canada is because there is little demand for it, so no economies of scale so they don't do it.
Because apparently in other provinces they have laws that discourage people from developing in floodplains...
