Salad? In a chip shop? No wonder you all got sick.

That was my dad's reaction... It is his excuse to avoid salad.

The fish is generally pretty good everywhere. Finding proper chips is almost impossible. I spent several years looking and abandoned the project.

My friend Scottish Joe (from Scotland) tells me that this place in Scarborough is the best in this part of the world. Don't let the golf course photos fool you it is in Canada:

Thanks very much to all for the tips.

I think that I have 2 projects on the go now, my search for the best beer, and there is a lot of competition; and now my search for the best fish and if possible, chips. Too many places served skinny French Fries.

Stay safe

When we lived in Toronto, St Andrews was the only Fish and Chip shop we liked...... Date night was takeaway fish and chips sat in the car before going to watch a movie at STC or Morningside....

Damn, I want fish and chips now, and I've already started cooking chicken for dinner.

Jack & Veras? Wondered what happened to them when they left the Rovers Return. I hope his pigeons didn't get close to the tartae sauce.

A short walk from Duckworth's Fish and Chips, there was an old cinema on Kingston Road that had been converted into a pool hall. It still had an enormous screen. On Sunday mornings they showed Big Screen Coronation Street. People came dressed as the characters and some threw toast at the screen. Vera was, of course, the favourite costume. That, my dear, was a flaming experience for a Sunday morning.

It's a condo now. More arse clenched I don't doubt.

Yes. I wasn't fond of the chips, but that may have been me. Should have gone again.

I made the mistake of reading this thread while moderately hungry and am now famished!

Especially silly as I knew full well that the best I can rustle up in the house at the moment is a hot cross bun

They also have a place in Scarberia on Kingston Road where I always get takeout from. They're both pretty basic to eat in.

In Brampton Heritage at 410 and queen is equally good.

Both better than anything I've had in Blighty forever, though that may be partially due to being a Londoner where the idea of good fish and chips went many years ago.
