Finally arrived in Nova Scotia

We finally arrived on Tuesday 2.30am (12 hours late) after a nightmare journey which went wrong from the trying to check-in for our first flight at Aberdeen Airport. Arrived in plenty of time, but at the desk the "COMPUTER SAYS NO" with reference to our cat booking and it also decided to have problems with printing out our luggage labels. After 30 minutes at the desk they decided to close the flight and to hell with our booking  Told us that we could fly out on the next flight and still catch our Heathrow to Halifax flight, the lo and behold 15 minutes later said oops, Air Canada have told us that you won't have time to connect.

Gave us the great option though of flying out 2 days later :scared: or go via Toronto with flight times hours apart!!!! Oh, forgot to mention that they would charge us 50 GBP each for the pleasure. Well cue the tears from me - sheer anger and frustration bearing in mind that we have just spent the last week packing up the house and saying farewell to friends and family. Five minutes later the extra fee was waived.

Flew to Heathrow then onto Toronto. Received our WPs there instead of halifax as it was our first point of landing. Had already applied for WPs so were in their system. Me and the kids got permits through to December 2009 (mine's was open WP). OH only got his permit til June 2008 as his passport expires then. They can only issue you with a WP up to or less than the expiry date. Was asked if we had goods to follow but was not asked for a goods to follow list.

Problems at Toronto too - couldn't find the cat!!!!! Spent 1.5 hours searching for her. Nobody knew where she was. Finally found out with 15 minutes to spare that she had been put directly on the flight to Halifax. Throughout our whole trip nobody asked to see the papers for the cat or asked for any extra fees either on landing - she was just handed over by cargo.

Arrived at Halifax and was reunited with our cat but not our luggage - had gone AWOL  Resigned to the fact (and too bloody tired) we headed for our hired car company to discover that it had closed (it was 2.30am). Had to hire from another company and will have to ask for refund from first one.

Drove 1.5 hours to New Glasgow with our confused cat meiowing non-stop all the way.

Spent yesterday wearing our travel clothes (yuk) and went to buy some new undies, socks and T-shirts etc, and a lovely new laptop. Was reunited with our luggage at 9pm - all 7 pieces.......yahoo !!!!

Well that catalogue of disasters hasn't put us off. Kids say they really like the area and seem really happy. Been out and about today. Nice and sunny but chilly - still it's good for this time of the year. Tomorrow it's house-hunting which should be good.

Things can only get better!!!!! ;)

PS kids have just shouted out that its snowing - wish I had bought those Canadian snow boots I saw in the mall

Welcome to NS

We have lived in the Annapolis Valley for 2 1/2 years, but we are considering moving closer to Halifax. We also brought our cat.

Cheers

Well. we've now been here for 5 full days and it feels like longer because we have packed so much in. Everyone feels really at home here even though we have no family/friends around. Kids really like the place too and are happy. They will be starting school in a couple of weeks when the new semester starts. Our cat has settled down, although I am sure she had jet-lag as she was up and about at 4am meiowing for the first 3 days. She has become more cuddly since we arrived and loves to sit beside us on the sofa - a thing she never did before.

First step, got a new laptop and got back in touch with friends etc. We have been house-hunting too. The second house we walked into we all went WOW! and still feel the same, so it could well be the one for us. Still viewing other houses in the meantime of course.

Have also been looking at buying a 4x4. Renting at the moment but thats money down the drain so we'll buy soon.

Weather still good for this time of the year, athough in a coupe of days it will be dropping to a high of -12C.

OH heads off to Dartmouth tomorrow for 2 weeks (Mon-Fri) so that will be strange for us all. Crikey, I am not too hot on directions when driving so goodness only knows where I land up - driving the sceneic route no doubt :p
