Default Favourite / worst Christmas carols / songs

Mine have to be Fairytale of New York - Pogues and Kirsty McColl best (really miss hearing it on the radio)

Worst is the "I want a hippopotamus for Xmas" seriously???? Presumably the person that sung that is now dead, if not can I go and smack her over the head with a frying pan

I like all Christmas songs because they celebrate, in their own unique way, the birth of the baby Jesus.

Aren't Christmas Carols something that Christians sing in Church? Of course I'm not sure, nor do I give a damn, but "Fairytale of New York" seems only slightly connected with the mainstream root culture of Christianity and hippopotamus envy even less so.

Each to their own I suppose.

Oh, and bugger christmas. You can be sure that if any wandering carol singers knock on my door they'll be educated in rational thinking.

I absolutely don't care about the religious connection ( not believing in religion and all that) however being brought up around the fact that at christmas you get time off and presents, and good vibes and food - then there are obviously he songs that accompany it.

So irrespective of whether you believe in the history behind christmas - there's alway some belting choons - that span the generations

Favourites include; Kirsty MacColl and The Pogues, and most of the Bob River's Twisted Christmas and Chipmunks Roasting On An Open Fire albums.

Most hated are most remakes of classic Christmas songs by Pop/American Idol, or other reality show contestants.

I enjoy listening to Handel's Messiah at this time of year. The whole thing, not just the chorus.

Xmas pop - Fairytale of new York, I Believe In Father Christmas and the Slade and Wizzard ones

Xmas Carol - Probably everything except "In the bleak Mid-Winter" which was obviously written by a suicidal emo.

Worst - the Cheesy Novelty ones and Cliff's efforts.

Favourites - "Driving Home for Christmas" by Chris Rea, and I like the Pogues one too, plus I'm enjoying that new Annie Lennox album right now.

Cannot stand Mariah Carey and I just want to shove a whole tree up her a*** when she starts that horrendous warbling.

Love Silent Night too.

Most hated songs...Wham!'s "Last Christmas," "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer," anything by Mariah Carey, "Santa Baby" by Madonna, Chipmunks Christmas songs, and though it's a local favorite here, the "Six White Boomers" song.

Favorites: also Pogues, Boney M, etc. I like "O Holy Night" and haven't found a version that I really detest yet but I'm sure there's one out there.

Christmas can be useful. People at work now believe that I must belong to some kind of weird cult ( I overheard a conversation), all because I politely explained to my colleague that I don't celebrate Christmas.

Don't get me wrong , I have no problem with other people doing so , but I feel obliged to explain before peopel strat buying me gifts.

( I still have a nice stash of goodies though, allthough given the income bracket of our average parent , I still holdout hope that one day I will get a pair of leaf tickets or similar )

Which, I trust, you will donate to a local charity, or to your colleagues
