They are clearly lucky to have your experience, as it sounds like they have a lot to learn; hopefully this initiative will put a lid on rising crime in that area, while it is not too late.

If I wasn't in my late thirties and chubby, i'd consider some kind of police work. Do they have community police (unpaid volunteers, i think) there as they do in the uk? I am always stepping in to situations being a good citizen.

not as such no, the concept of 'special' constables as we would know it does not appear to have reached the cities, well not this one anyway. having said that i believe the RCMP do have some kind of volunteer force, perhaps check with them.
