12 months from 23 June, soonest date will be mid 2017. Cameron's pre-election promise finalized - Cameron resigns, a new election takes place

Don't worry though, cos my thought on this is that the British public will vote to stay in the EU.

Remember the recent Scottish independence vote
Yes, I agree.

I think the 'news item' is that Brexit is a possibility, in other words, it's not the plain madness that many assumed it was a few years ago...nevertheless, though it's possible, it ain't going to happen. We're all Europeans now.

I think it doesn't happen too. The big corporate scaremongering that probably did for the Scottish bid has started- I saw HSBC say they move the corporate HQ from London to Paris if the UK exited.

And that makes me think the US might be quite excited about this- could see NYC regain it's #1 status for world trade. Or with the Brexit London might become even stronger to the further detriment of the rest of the country. Who knows!

Jolly good old bean. You're going to have a dreadful day on June 24th (taking account of the time zones).

We should dissolve The Commonwealth while we're at it.

Can't vote, but I'll not be happy if Brexit goes through.

Fortunately we (offspring & I) have spare EU citizenships in hand .

(I realise it was several pages back, but multiple citizenships *are* allowed - my lot have 3/4 apiece)

My take on this for what it is worth.
Citizens of Cyprus, Malta and Gibraltar are also permitted to vote on BREXIT, this give the STAY PoV a significant advantage. Add the 5million or so Brits living overseas, many live in Europe, their interests are also to remain in Europe. This it would appear should give DC an unassailable lead.

The twist in this is that if the scots SNP vote to leave Europe and swing the vote to BREXIT, they would have a very good chance of getting another referendum on independance on the grounds of wishing to remain in Europe. Truly bazaar.

Think the multi-passport debate was on another thread!!!

Still after posting this got me thinking how the f*** to I claim that scottish passport in the worst case scenario. It'll take a lot of online digging as it's through grandparents who died before/ just after I was born...

Erm... Don't think so, but it doesn't really matter (it seems to come up quite often on various threads).

The putative Scottish passport depends on what model they decide on. The little I've briefly read online seems to say that Scottish born g'parents would suffice, but then one starts to wonder about miniwheels & transmission of citizenship ...

Id like to read one just for interest to get an understanding of why the referendum is being held.

I don't think the miniwheels would qualify for scottish citizenship if it stops at grandparent.

The Irish FA seemed happy enough accepting English footballers if they'd once had a pint of Guinness. Perhaps eating haggis will qualify one for a Scottish passport similarly.

The Irish are remarkable generous re citizenship. My lot & I have it, no Guinness drinking was required, & offspring have never been near the place.

First Michael Gove backing Brexit, and now Boris Johnson. It's going to be quite a lively debate over the next few months !!

Well they let Budge Pountney play for them for best part of a decade because he "thought" he had a scottish granny...
