electricians in canada?
 

im 26, a domestic electrician (also inspector/tester-2391) in the uk and my family and i are considering moving to canada, possibly BC. I was hoping some one can get me on the right track...web pages, what ill need to do (extra training) etc. we're only in early days of thinking about it at the moment but any info/help will be appreciated.

Hi, not much info I can give you as we are in the same boat as you, just came to say hi,

my husband is also electrician, we are looking at going to Canada too. We are 24 and 25 (next week lol) and have 3 young children.

The only problem we are facing is hubby's experience. From info, people n here and reading web pages etc you need 8,000 odd hours work and I think 72 months experience and this doesn't include training.

hi. thats a lot of hours :huh: ! iv been looking at alot and i MEAN ALOT of web pages related to it all and theres so much reading/info it all gets a little confusing! my father is also an electrician and is also thinking about moving, wonder if this would be an advantage for me.
hope u both find away of getting the better life! if i come across any info that may help u ill post it!

Yeah there is loads to read! Sometimes I don't know if I am reading the right thing I was looking for lol very confusing.

Yeah if you find anything that would be helpful and we will do the same.

My hubby has a Auntie over there too so I don't know if that helps us get over.

Hi

The guys that you need to speak to for BC are here -- http://www.itabc.ca/Page496.aspx

You will notice that BC there is construction or industrial, so not sure where most of your work will go into.
The required amount of hours that you will need is 9000hrs and that is not including your apprentaship, better to drop them aline or speak to them regarding what you do have.
In alberta the licence is for all three fields of electrician and i have known guys to sit there licence here and then work in other areas of canada ;)

I must admit that AAIT is really getting tough on stuff at the moment, although my hubby has passed his exam, they have also made sure that his employer is happy with his work, they must have had some bad batch through and they are really checking up on all the trades :eek:

Also as you are 26yrs, you will have to come here on you, not your dad as you are too old....soz

you need to find your local apprenticeship board an dispute your qualification

i have recently disputed and passed my red seal in Alberta. i was advised by the apprentice board to purchase the apprentice study guides (all four years worth in one lump) as that's the only information they have to revise from.
