Re: Election 2021
Why would Trudeau resign if he loses seats but keeps his minority government? His ego would be bruised but something tells me his ego is big enough to withstand a few knocks. SNC and WE didn’t trigger his resignation. He just kicked out the whistle blowers and shut down the investigations. And the party stood by JT. His dad ran the party for 16 years. Another decade to go?

Re: Election 2021
Talking of hypocrisy, Mr Trudeau is rallying the public against “house flippers”.
The problem is that a long-time Liberal organizer Taleeb Noormohamed is a flipper. He is running in the district where Jody Wilson-Raybould was an MP. Of course Justin got rid of Jody for having way too much decency. Its a safe Liberal seat now that Jody has left so Taleeb is guaranteed a spot in Ottawa.
Taleeb has Justin’s full support. He is claiming that he is not a flipper. There was a very good reason for buying and selling the house in quick succession. And the other three times.

Usual Liberal play, do something, get caught, but deny it or deflect.
Sounds like BS excuses to me, and definition of flipper, buy, wait a bit, sell for a profit.
When asked how many home he has sold within a two-year period after purchase in the last 10 years, he didn't want to speculate, and his office said it would take time, so seems he has done it so many times he doesn't know how many?
Nothing Trudeau say's is anything I will believe, he has had more than enough time to do something and has largely done nothing, broke several high profile promises from his 1st election though.

Re: Election 2021
An ongoing decline in the number of party members elected might be the trigger that causes him to resign as leader. He is a master of saying lots but not saying much. I'd forgotten about the WE scandal. I really couldn't figure out what the charity did. It sounded good but scratch the surface and there wasn't much there in terms of an actual charity.
Long way to go though. Perhaps strategic voting will cause NDPers to vote Liberal, BQ's efforts in Quebec get rewarded, Liberal voters decide to stay home in disgust, the millennials surge towards NDP or we get to see a major stumble by either CPC or Liberals.

Re: Election 2021
I do in some ways find it amusing the province that may hate Trudeau more than any other, and most likely to vote conservative also appear to the province whose residents benefitted the most from COVID funds from the feds, averaging $11,410 vs 2nd place Ontario at $9,940.
92% of the federal funds were from Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy & Canada Emergency Business Account loan forgiveness program.
When it comes to how much of provincial GDP provinces contributed to COVID-19 funding independent of federal money, Alberta wasn't last, 7th place out of 10 at 1.2%, BC spent the most at 3.5%.
Alberta government says the report isn't accurate.

Re: Election 2021
Taleeb flipped at least 21 homes since 2005, so claiming he isn't a speculator is going to get harder.
"According to documents obtained by NEWS 1130, Noormohamed has sold at least 42 properties within Metro Vancouver within the last 17 years, holding 30 of them for less than two years. And the tech executive has made a tidy profit along the way, making $4.9 million in the process, a remarkable $3.7 million of which he’s bagged in the last six years."

Re: Election 2021
Oh I want to know how they will spin this one, clearly he is a house flipper, and is clearly part of the problem, which indicates Trudeau probably has no real intention on trying to reel in the housing crises in Canada, which he has had what 6 years to do something about and hasn't so why would he change now?
There is no other reason but speculative buying and selling that one would buy and sell properties like that.
I wonder how many if any were rented out, or did they sit empty taking housing stock off the market which in turn jacks prices even higher.

Re: Election 2021
Bloomberg published an interesting article showing the damage populist leaders inflict on their country’s economies.
The article is drawing parallels between Trudeau and Trump.
https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/ar...nada-s-economy
According to the latest polls Trudeau’s populism does not appear to be working.
“The economists found that countries lost around one percentage point of economic growth every year after a populist came to power. This underperformance existed relative both to each country’s long-run growth rate and to the current global growth rate, and held for at least 15 years”

I wonder if he is having any second thoughts about calling an early election.

Re: Election 2021
You bet. “I take this pandemic seriously so lets all gather and cast the vote for me” didn’t go down quite as well as he hoped. His pitch is the same as NDP’s but Jag hasn’t been caught out breaking the law on ethics/corruption and generally lying. Early days though. Painting O’Toole as really scary has proven to be quite difficult so far but its one thing Justin has a lot of experience in and I trust in him metting the challenge.

Re: Election 2021
Even if Trudeau loses the election I expect him to come up smelling of roses and not being unemployed for long. Seriously which one of us would want to be PM with the pandemic still going, the housing crisis, climate change and our national debt.

Not too worried for the trust fund kid and have full confidence that SNC/WE executives will ensure his family isn’t destitute.
Given that Canada borrowed the most during Covid for the size of our economy, the size of national debt is a little memento to remember him by.

Re: Election 2021
The wealthy privileged rarely are unemployed long, they stick together, same with the pandemic and the whole everyone is in the same boat BS, nope so not true, and skilled professionals in many industries actually benefitted positively from the pandemic at the same time others lost nearly everything and became unemployed, but seems many politicians have finally dropped the we are all in this equally stance since its been show by their own stats people to be BS.
As for housing crises, well ignore a problem and wish it will go away wont make the problem go away, and that seemed to largely been his plan for the past 6 years, now its gotten so bad, its no longer a problem just of Vancouver and Toronto, but a problem in many city's that were once affordable and no longer are, and when the affordable alternatives become unaffordable people begin to get restless when there isn't anywhere to go, provinces don't have as deep of pockets so when it comes to things like subsidized housing feds need to step in and help finance it.
Jagmeet Singh I do like, not just because I lean towards his party, simply because he is more personable, and while still a politician at the end of the day, seems like a decent dude overall, and makes entertaining tik tok videos.
