eBay Canada
Hi guys
Can anyone explain why eBay seems to be nowhere near as popular in Canada as it is in the UK?
Doing various searches on eBay Canada gets a fraction of the results of the UK. I expected around half as population is around half. But nowhere near.
We use eBay all the time, and have a business selling on eBay too.
Just wondering why it's not as popular. I expected online shopping to be just as big if not bigger in Canada as population spread over a large area. We live in Wales currently and everyone shops online as it gives them access to everything in the world, not just the things you can buy at the local shops.
So why hasn't eBay caught on as much there (yet anyway)?

Yes, I was surprised by how very much less e-commerce goes on here as opposed to Europe.
You do though have to realize that certainly where I live there are very large groups of people who have very little or no access to the Internet, they don't trust it and aren't going to any time soon.
eBay is something of a damp squib, we all use Kijiji.

That's a key issue - Canada = big country with small population density. Shipping is expensive and slow. Buy from the US and duties/shipping can make online purchasing quite costly.

There's more competition now so I don't check ebay first like I used to. Depending on the type of item it could come from 3 other sites.

It's g-r-a-d-u-a-l-l-y coming but the best you can do at the moment is tinned and packaged stuff from Walmart to be delivered and an order from Superstore that you have to collect.

Re: eBay Canada
Canada is behind the times when it comes to ecommerce.
Shipping is expensive and tends to be slow. Can take 7 to 10 days for a parcel to go Vancouver to Toronto.
Order from outside Canada and duties and taxes become a probability.
I check ebay sometimes but generally nothing there or prices are high with high shipping.

Because some Brits are lazy bar stewards and cant be bothered getting off their fat arses to go out and shop.
Good ****ing grief how did people shop before the internet and Ebay etc etc
If they dont have what you want locally then you are gonna have to search the internet to find it and pay the associated costs.
Oh but it costs so much more in Canada wah wah. I think the shipping cost and any applicable duties is cheaper than moving or driving to where you can get it cheaper.
I just bought a Dyson from eBay which was the actual Dyson Canada website.
Free shipping and cost me less than buying local for the same identical item.
Took less than a week to arrive.
Seriously apart from some specialist items there is very little that I cannot purchase locally or the retailer will order it in for me.
Sure some parts of Canada are somewhat remote but you chose to live there and nobody is emigrating because of e commerce.
So who is having withdrawal symptoms because the shops are closed today?

Wait a mo...didn't you just dis the internet?
Good to see you're paid well enough for price to be of little concern.
Except for where it's not, as demonstrated in the OP's building supplies thread.
Ah so you saw an advantage in buying on line after all. A Dyson too. Moneybags.

Re: eBay Canada
Come to BC. Many retailers are open today.
Its not always out of laziness. A large tub of detergent for example cant fit in my back pack, so most efficient way to get it is online and let Amazon bring it to me.
Same with dog food but not amazon but a local company.
Not everyone has a car to bring bulky items home.

Its free shipping with Amazon.
Well unless its free shipping what is the cost of shipping that detergent? I know lots of people who dont have a vehicle but will catch public transit to a major grocery store then cab it home or even Uber it which is probably cheaper than shipping costs of course unless its free shipping.

Re: eBay Canada
I buy a lot online ..... but have never used eBay.
I use the individual retailers, some in Canada because I now find it difficult to get to the stores, some in the US because they carry what I want for a better price ............. and I get free shipping because I usually order above the minimum limit for that.

Now might be a good time to tell you not to expect to grocery shop on line like you can with Sainsburys, Tesco etc
