EasyJet introducing allocated seating for all flights by end of Nov 2012

If you are Europe bound and have need to use EasyJet within Europe, you'll find that very soon they will switch from a 'free for all' seating arrangement to 'allocated seats' on booking. It'll be fully in place by the end of November.

I was on a flight from the UK to Portugal today and they announced the above on the plane when we landed in Faro I think they said it will take effect from next week.

At the moment you don't have to pay to be allocated a seat.
If you use online checkin you will be allocated a random seat at that point.

You can choose a specific seat, but it will come as no surprise to many that you'll pay for that privilege.

And they can charge more for them.

This is probably some script bollocks....I am sure like any other airline, if you show up at the airport early enough, getting a decent sit will be at the discretion of the person at the counter.

During my volunteer travel work to Peru last year at the orphanage, I had two huge hockey goalie size bags full of stuff for the kids, everyone asked how I was going to get it there without paying excess luggage? I told them the plan was just to get to the airport early and tell them what am doing, and what do you know, I picked up both bags in Lima and didn't pay a dime

I'll use that ruse next time I'm a bit overloaded.....

My take is that it's all in how you present yourself and treat the folks at the counter. The same approach would be in play when we leave for blighty in a few weeks

I was being a bit facetious. If you really do engage in volunteer work at orphanages, you deserve free excess luggage.... and a pat on the back.

How wonderful. It would be lovely if you could post some photos of your adventure? I believe I've read on other threads that you're quite the photographer.

Welcome to the forum. I think you'll fit right in here and I'm not even being sarcastic.

In just your 2nd post, you have had the time to read up on everybody eh? You are either trolling or are an old member who decided to open another account to stir things up.

Never claimed to be a pro photog, but it behooves you to search the forum if you want to see the pics.

You get me jonesy?

I know it's not for everyone, but yes I really do like doing my part. You don't know me personally, so how would you know right? I don't expect you to and couldn't care if you believe it or not. As long as the recipients of my goodwill are happy, that is all that matters innit?

I think EasyJet was forced into it. They've been skirting the regulations on knowing who sits where for quite some time and I'm guessing the CAA finally gave them an ultimatum over it.
