DVD PLAYERS FROM UK
 

Hi All
Will be moving to Oshawa in May,just waiting for the completion of the sale of the house over here.

Can anyone advise me if I can use my Region 2 Blu-Ray DVD player on the TV sets bought in Canada, I know that I will have to get a transformer for the voltage difference on the DVD player.

I dont know how much transformers cost, but you can blue ray players for about $150 now.

As said by others you could search, but I'll be a nice chap :)

You could use your player over here, but it might be far easier to see if you can get a region free player over here. For DVD's that's pretty easy, I picked up a Phillips one many years ago from BestBuy and with a quick code entry on the remote it could play DVD's from anywhere.

I think the same is true of Blu-Ray players, but you'd probably want have a quick search on the internet for region free blu-ray to see what comes up.

one of the problems is that in the UK we mainly use scart connectors - here they use the HMDI or the RCA cables - tvs here do not have scart connections.

Do not buy a Sony blue ray as they do not have hacks and we searched everywhere.

We have bought numerous appliances here and for a cheap multi play dvd the best was out the superstore and it was only $24. We had so many dvd's from the UK and still find it cheaper ordering many dvd's from the UKfrom the likes of HMV or Play.com and asking family to bring them over.

I also bought 2 transformers and to say they were bulky and heavy was an understatement and we ended up only using them for my music centre which has a superior sound than many found here.

DVD players are inexpensive so why bother - not worth the fuss

Hi BINS295, just changing the subject but I'm interested in what is taking you to Oshawa. We're looking at that area ourselves as OH's job will be nearby.

We are going for a reccie trip this August. Some say that the area has suffered due to the recession and some say that it's thriving due to the university. I guess we'll get our answers in the summer but I'd love to hear your take on the area.

Hi Becky

We decided to go to that area mainly due to the fact that we have relations in the area.(they have been there for over 30 years) The area is not bad for housing and at reasonable prices. It's not too far from Toronto as Whitby has a railway link straight there.

Like most places there is good and not so good,but generally the area is nice and we feel quite comfortable there.
The ammenities are good and jobwise,there are jobs there if you are prepared to put your hand in at anything and not be too fussy.

Thanks for that!! We have never visited the area but it's very close to where OH will be working. I noticed that the house prices were reasonable and there are lots of open spaces to the North. It's great to get another person's perspective.
Good luck when you move. Maybe we'll bump into you in our 'local' Tim Hortons.
