Not better than cider, pie, chocolate, horses.

No. This is just a miserable, jaded lot of expats. ;) Toronto has some nasty, run down, depressing parts...just like any city. For the most part, it is busy, full of people, full of food and full of things to see and do. It's very "neighbourhood" orientated, so spend the time to go to the different areas and take it all in.

Chinatown - for the obvious
Kensington - for the hippy, market thing
The Beach - for well, the beach, and Queen St E. Lots of shops, places to eat and people watch.
St Lawrence Market - just fantastic
Cabbagetown - parks, beautiful old streets and laneways
Little Italy - for the obvious
Queen West - to watch and/or mock the trendy young things
Downtown Yonge St - a fine mixture of glitzy retail and old school sleaze

There's heaps more of course. I like the place, warts and all. A place without diversity and sleaze is, to me, a vanilla echo of real life, the burbs.

*No, I do not work for the Toronto Tourist Board.

Don't forget Greektown, also for the obvious.

All here, if you know where 2 look.

(Stupid 7 word rule bypassed by usage of a digit)

That's exactly what I don't like about Toronto, the assumption that someone from Wichita or Overland Park would find it to be somehow different. Toronto's fine for what it is, an orderly mid-sized North American city, as indeed is Wichita, but neither of them are San Francisco nor New Orleans nor Boston.
