Day trip to the US while on TWP, easy or not??
 

HI,
A girl friend and I would like to go down to the US for some shopping and I was wondering how difficult they make it at the boarder. We are UK citizens here on TWP and have applied for PR still awaiting a reply. Our TWP's are still valid till January 2012.

You will need to get the I94W from the office if you havent done so in the last 6 months... Its a hassle, but not the end of the world.

Thats no different for a PR though, so TWP vs PR is the same in that respect.

I can't remember what forms we needed but I know, because I haven't been to USA for over 10 years, I had to do the full palm scans, photos etc etc.

Hubby didn't, he's already on file LOL

I have never been other than to Flag pole and then they didn't ask us anything just sent us round the pole back into Canada.

Be prepared to do the scans then. They USA are a bit touchy about letting people in these days :unsure:

The process itself doesn't take too long, as long as they don't decide to look into you further. A girl next to me was having a bit of trouble due to the fact she was going to be staying in USA for a few months. However the queues can be a nightmare so just plan what time you want to hit the border. Try not to get it 'on peak' so to speak.

Most border crossing have info pages so you should be able to determine the peak times for your particular one.

Further to everyone else's information do not forget to hand your I94 in before it expires. (90 days from date of issue).
IE: If you are not going to travel back to the US and use it again before the expiry date turn it in at Canada customs as you leave.
If it should expire while it is still in your possession you could have problems should you ever want to enter the US in future.
I spend roughly 10 out of every 14 days south of the border due to my job and as such i have had to maintain I94's in my passport constantly for the last four years.
