Hang on... Am I to take it from this that you can't get a decent curry in Vancouver?? Really? Not one bloody decent place????

I know of 2:

Vijs
The Law Society cafe (Grounds for Appeal)

At opposite ends of the scale but both really good. And in the case of GFA, a very cheap, very popular and very filling lunch for less than $10 all in!

The curry place in the international food court on hornby is good for lunch. Most of the "restaurants" are shite unless you like the overly sweet and bland butter chicken that the cradles seem to lap up.

My local butcher is getting some locally farmed goat this week. I see a goat vindaloo on my horizon.

Baba Sweets on Scott Road does a great lamb curry with rice and naan for under $10. Not exactly luxurious surroundings but what the hell ...

Did everybody miss the fact that she had a curry for breakfast?
She said she landed at 7am and had a curry.
You must have all been caught up in the curry to miss the timing.

And where does one get a curry at 7am?

CanadaJimmy Aug 20th 2010 8:35 am

Re: Curry

She landed at the airport from Canada at 7am, which is 11pm BC time.

Perfectly suitable time for curry! Though I suppose that is a bit strange.

I went to an awesome curry place on Commercial Drive once. One of those places that look basic but the food is awesome.

Re: Curry

There's a decent one on Davie just up from The Sandman.

Vancouver is alot better than Toronto for Indian food IMO.

That's about it. :)

If you mean the India Bistro, its hit and miss. Its okay on Friday and Saturady night but the rest of the week its a bit shit.

I mean the "All India" (just checked the receipt still in my wallet) Only had a bad meal there once on a quiet Wednesday lunchtime.

Naan and rice are top quality and the dishes are pretty good IMO. My usual curry experience in Canada is one of immense disappointment so this place does me just fine.

Admittedly I am yet to make it to Viji's.

Vij's doesn't count as it's too posh and you have to wait.

Vij's doesn't count as it's too posh and you have to wait. Mayura is walking distance from my place but its too spendy for my wallet.

Try Vij's off Granville... opens at 1730 and you have to wait in line (well worth it)... try the fenugreek lamp... probably the best asian fusion food in the world. :p
