Default Cowtown: the good, bad and ugly

A pointless post really as everyone has their own likes, dislikes, wants, needs, circumstances etc... but I've about 24 hours left in Calgary and an oven to clean so I'm doing anything to avoid doing that... so, I'll blether on about the city I called home for 11 months.

good:
- people; I've met some great people in Calgary - Steve_P, Judy in Calgary, Balzac, Butch, (where ever did he go?), Calgal (and her?) plus others from here in 'real life' and other real life people and many cyber pals.
- friendly; this is a friendly city and people will do you favours.
- weather; though a bit too hot for me in the summer (I don't like heat), I loved the sun, BIG sky, thunderstorms, snow, -30, floods, etc... loved it all... except the lack of spring and the heat waves.
- the drive to the mountains; not many drives are so jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
- I made about 50 thousand on my condo (well not yet officially)... thank you boom (though I did input some sweat equity... but not 50 grands worth!).
- the ethnic weirdness at Stampede time; I love seeing women in sarees wearing cowboy hats, Sikhs in shit-kickers etc...
- the river pathway system; it's just great.
- Janice Beaton Fine Cheese, the Greek deli around the corner and Rock Creek cider
- my diverse, crazy, lively neighbourhood of Connaught

bad and ugly:
- homeless people; though where I'm going has a higher rate of homelessness and homelessness doesn't shock me, homeless people in Calgary seem far more excluded from society and far more desperate appearing than in Victoria (even in summer).
- pickup trucks and Hummers; if I never see another one...
- too young; I find the population too young... I like old farts and their influence.
- too big; when I first came here I loved that... now, I do not.

I'm sure the politics would aggravate which is one reason I didn't engage with them ... plus I had other interests grabbing my attention, so I'll remain neutral in this instance.

On balance, I liked Calgary but the west coast is my home (cheesy music) and I need/want to go there... although my anxiety about it is rising by the minute!

I agree... hills do that autumn thing and that is amazing.

I lived for a summer in NB, and loved it.
