Universal credit savaged by public spending watchdog
The government’s ambitious change to the benefits system, universal credit, fails to deliver promised financial savings or employment benefits and leaves thousands of vulnerable claimants in hardship, according to the public spending watchdog. The National Audit Office effectively demolishes ministerial claims for universal credit, concluding that the much-delayed flagship welfare programme may end up costing more than the benefit system it replaces, cannot prove it helps more claimants into work and is unlikely to ever deliver value for money.
Of course, every single submission by every organisation told them all this when they were "Seeking input" on the proposals and, as is always the case, government ignored them.

And nobody will be accountable.

That show wasn't that bad. I quite enjoyed it in parts.

A couple of all too real characters.

It's not the civil servants who plough on ignoring all the submissions telling them it's a bad idea.

I tried to multi quote but, either I am stupid, or it isn't working.

But, from my perspective, either the government made a bad decision and the electorate can deal with that at the next election, or the civil service didn't implement the policy as they had been instructed to do so and, if not, should be disciplined. If they are not disciplined the minister responsible can be dealt with by the electorate at the next election.

Apparently it depends on the device and/or browser.

That pre-supposes the electorate knows about it. The idea, the proposals, the submissions, the trials and subsequent failures, the going ahead with it anyway despite the failures in the trials and, finally, the "revelations" that it does fail and how much money was wasted.

Also from the Guardian -

From 2013

And now -

The NAO said the universal credit project had been beset by "weak management, ineffective control and poor governance".

The NAO found that in 2017, around one quarter (113,000) of new claims were not paid in full on time. Late payments were delayed on average by four weeks.

From January to October last year, 40% of those affected by late payments waited around 11 weeks or more, and 20% waited nearly five months.

IDS- to quote someone or other "He would say that, wouldn't he?"

When people tell you something's not workable, don't be surprised when it doesn't work.

As for IT, the government always underpays. They put a tender out, in come the responses, they pick someone and those in the know say "What again? They made a mess of it last time and look at the mess they made of such and such's new system. It would be crazy to hire the again" and guess what, they still do it.

Surprise surprise, they're not up to the task. Minister blames someone else.

If any member of the electorate is ill informed about anything available in the public domain that is their issue.

You are not going to get any argument from me that, with a couple of exceptions, the vast majority of all levels of government/civil servants are a complete and utter bunch of incompetent people that do little to improve the lives of the citizens they are supposed to serve. I say this as former public servant.
