Counter intuitive prices
Punnet of strawberries £2.00
2 packs of 4 full Mars Bars £2.00 - not for me - honest!
Is it any wonder there is an obesity epidemic? Eight manufactured and highly marketed candy bars, cost more than a 250g punnet of strawbs!

Re: Counter intuitive prices
Typical price for 1lb of strawberries = $2.50-$3.00
Typical price 2 packs of 4 Mars bars = $6 (if they're on sale!!)
This must be why obesity isn't a problem in Cana....oh, wait....

Re: Counter intuitive prices
Where are you buying your Mars Bars?? Go to the Dollar Store and get them for $0.65 each.

Re: Counter intuitive prices
If they both cost £2.00 then they cost the same.
And for your obesity argument to make sense, the Mars Bars would have to cost less than the strawberries (you said they cost more even though they actually cost the same).

Re: Counter intuitive prices
A punnet of strawbs is 2-3 portions, 8 Mars Bars is 8 portions, so relative to the fruit the chocs are very cheap IME.

However, still not a huge difference. I think they might be 69c in our Dollarama but that's still $5.52 for 8 which is close to the $6 I mentioned.

Around here healthy eating will cost you a small fortune, we got not much for 80 dollars the other day when all we bought were some fruits and vegetables and milk.
Yeserday was about 65 on meat cheese and milk, 2 packs pork chops, 300g of clams, some hamburger patties, hamburger buns, cheese, sour cream, and tortillas.
Its certainly cheaper to eat junky foods then good foods a small bag of 4 organges was 5 something, lasts 2 people 1 or 2 days.
We go through stints where we buy healthy foods like this week, the realize after buying it we can't afford to spend 150-200 per week, so we revert back to cereal, frozen stuff, and Mcdonalds value menu.
Boils down to money and what can fill your belly the cheapest, food is unfortunantly not very affordable anymore.

Re: Counter intuitive prices
Starawberries around here if on sale which they usually are somewhere run about 2.50 for a clam shell which is about 1 pound, these are the California and Mexico imported versions.
Locally BC grown berries normally double the price, so I never buy those.

They do have good cherries here. I always buy them when they come into season.
