Doesn't appear its the test itself is being charged, according to your link anyhow, the charges are coming from doctors, hospitals, ambulances and such.
"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is not billing patients for coronavirus testing"

Good to hear that, but the poor testee is still out of pocket at the moment.
You can imagine a situation where if the government says "We'll foot all the bills" then the health juggernaut will swing into action and drag anyone, in fact as many as they can find, off the street for a quick test, after all that's where the profit is.
As much as I don't like the sick being targetted for profit, this would at least give us a more representative idea of how many cases are actually out there.

Your daily 'we've all gone mad' moment, this time from Perth, Australia. You can't get a loo roll anywhere. They're all gone. I'm sorry I stopped buying newspapers now :blink:

Trust the UK media (Telegraph) to scare their readers by posting a photo of what looks like is from China.

US congress has agreed on a funding deal for dealing with Corona Virus, $8 billion being allocated.
  • More than $3 billion dedicated to the research and development of vaccines, as well as therapeutics and diagnostics;
  • $2.2 billion in public health funding to aid in prevention, preparedness and response efforts — including $950 million to support state and local agencies;
  • Nearly $1 billion to go toward medical supplies, health-care preparedness, Community Health Centers and medical surge capacity, and
  • $1.25 billion to address the coronavirus overseas.
The bill apparently also provides funding for $7 billion in small business loans for small business being affected and have also apparently set aside $300 million dollars so if a vaccine is developed anyone who wants it will be able to get it regardless of their ability to pay.

United Airlines is seeing significant enough reduction in travel, they are now cutting 20% of their international flights and 10% of their domestic and parking some aircraft.

Article about precarious workers, lack of sick leave a reason some wont likely report their symptoms.

If this spread we could see a fair number lose their housing.

New confirmed case in BC, a women in her 80's who has a travel history to India and Hong Kong, she was showing no symptoms during her travel period. She is in critical condition in the ICU at VGH.

One virtual care clinic in Washington is waiving their usual $25 charge for anyone with symptoms, good effort I suppose, but doubt a virtual clinic can do much.

Seattle and King County health officials are asking companies to have as many employees who can work from home do so. Also recommending those over 60, pregnant, or have other health issues that can weaken the immune system to stay home as much as possible, and avoid large gatherings over 10 people.

The governor has stated if medical evidence shows cancelling large events will slow the spread of the virus, he will use his powers to force cancellation of large events, but as of now will only do so if advised by health officials it is in the best interest of the public to do so.

King county has a sensible and stable government from what you wrote.

I got the idea that the bbc is just making things up, misquoting, cherry picking information and maybe leaving important facts out. I hope that is the case, otherwise things seem a little like a chaos in uk.

French people seem casual as usual. Its hard for me to tell that they are worried, I'd say not so much.

We will see whether heavy quarentines and lock downs in China work better vs the more open policy of France in the long run.
Which is the more affective strategy for a pandemic threat?

More will be revealed in the near future.
