Official rates: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulat...s/november2020
6. Deaths registered in the year-to-date
There were 517,148 deaths registered in England and 33,469 in Wales during the first 11 months (January to November) of 2020.From 'monthly deaths excel - including December - https://www.nisra.gov.uk/publications/monthly-deaths N.Ireland: 17,613
From 'monthly deaths excel - Scotland (not including December) https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/statis...ed-in-scotland - 58,084

You would have to do the same for each year to compare if there was a huge increase or not

Re: Coronavirus
AFAIK the swine flu wasn't a huge killer in the UK, but the 2008/2009 financial crisis may have contributed to more suicides. Who knows.

Effective Thursday, January 14, 2021at 12:01 a.m., the government is issuing a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services, for exercise or for essential work. This order and other new and existing public health restrictions are aimed at limiting people's mobility and reducing the number of daily contacts with those outside an immediate household. In addition to limiting outings to essential trips, all businesses must ensure that any employee who can work from home, does work from home.

Having to post it as a quote or the link doesn't show
FB might ask you to log in to view it -just click 'not now' and you will still be able to read it.
For those who can access it (it's on Facebook) - this is a concerning post from someone in their 40's who was hospitalised due to Covid.. his story. A long read.. but worth it. He has given consent to share. I know the Conquest hospital - I have no reason to doubt his post. I have it saved as a pdf if anyone would like it.

- All non-essential retail stores, including hardware stores, alcohol retailers, and those offering curbside pickup or delivery, must open no earlier than 7 a.m. and close no later than 8 p.m. The restricted hours of operation do not apply to stores that primarily sell food, pharmacies, gas stations, convenience stores, and restaurants for takeout or delivery.

Hubby was telling me that Quebec is doing the same. It will be from 8 pm to 8am daily.

So what has changed here? From the article:
- All non-essential retail stores, including hardware stores, alcohol retailers, and those offering curbside pickup or delivery, must open no earlier than 7 a.m. and close no later than 8 p.m. The restricted hours of operation do not apply to stores that primarily sell food, pharmacies, gas stations, convenience stores, and restaurants for takeout or delivery.
Doug Ford seemed to have ruled out curfews. From what he said today I think it would be the absolute last resort.
