The prevalence of the virus in the population is increasing. We found evidence that it has been accelerating at the end of August and beginning of September,” said Steven Riley, professor of infectious disease dynamics at Imperial College London and a co-author of the work...In addition, the team say the cases are no longer primarily found in clusters in care home and hospital settings, but are spreading more widely in the community...All the way up to 65 years old, amongst adults the prevalence has been increasing, so it is not just happening in the younger people,” said Elliott, adding over-65s might be continuing to shield.

“There is a real risk that the surge in cases, even amongst the young, will soon translate to increased hospitalisations of the vulnerable.”

Hospitalizations up to 49, 132 new cases.

Oh Kelowna and another long weekend.

"Interior Health is warning people who attended a private party at Kelowna's Hotel Zed in the early hours of Sept. 7 that they may have been exposed to the coronavirus. Hotel management says there were a number of people gathered in a common area and balcony during that time. They may not all have been registered guests."

Wasn't there supposed to be restrictions in place to prevent this happening? I thought that landlords and hotel owners could be held responsible for allowing these gatherings and police would have the power to break them up and issue fines where necessary. Seems yet again we can have "regulations" but zero enforcement of said regulations.

The hotel claims they broke the party up and kicked everyone out, according to twitter post on reddit.

Yeah of course they did. That hotel is popular with young generation and right opposite park and beach and close to all downtown has to offer. Party magnet for sure because the Grand is certainly a bit pricey for the party crowd

So just a day or two ago you were complaining about heavy-handed enforcement (re a plane mask regulation) now you're complaining about lack of enforcement. I am not sure if you just like to complain, or maybe you just want more enforcement against young yahoos, and less against "honest working families?"

Anyone watch this dude on You Tube? Dr John Cambell. His videos are fairly dry, but are good summaries and anlyses of the latest statistics and trends. Was slightly surprised with this "good news" one today (death rates falling, despite cases rising) when all the main news is fairly gloomy.

In the UK we started Monday morning with 30 schools with Covid 19 infections, five days later there are 620.
There are no words to describe how dangerous this Conservative Government is to the health of the nation.

I am waiting to see how schools fare here in BC, they went back last Thursday so still too early.

However we don't have a conservative government.

Plenty of mismanagement. Having said that, a large segment of society seems very unconcerned about the pandemic too. The focus has been on summer, then European beach holidays, and now "not cancelling Christmas".

Well ok but last time i looked at the latest information coming out of Dr Bonnie Henrys mouth the restrictions were being imposed because this is exactly where the spikes were occurring and they were clamping down.
There was and has never been (to my knowledge) any spikes in cases due to 3 year olds not wearing a mask on a plane. Yet we impose the full force of the law on said family but somehow we are not able to enforce the rules regarding large party crowds. It's not a level playing field is it? Which of the two scenarios was the one that posed the most risk?

Spot on. Talk about mixed messages from the Government... Stay at Home!! Eat out to Help Out!! No gatherings of xxx people! Get back to work! Don't travel if unnecessary!! Here's a list of countries you can go on holiday to!! We've increased testing capacity to world-beating records!! Too many people are wanting tests!!

And, for the icing on the cake, we're steaming ahead to derail the economy and our standing in the world with Brexit...

Honestly, it's too painful to watch. Although normally quite the newshound, over the last several months I've been tuning it out.

317 new cases over the weekend, 6 deaths.

Hospitalizations are up 9 since Friday to a total of 58.

1,594 active cases.

Dr. Henry warns the large number of new cases is putting heavy strain on the public health teams.

Positive test rate is 1.85% up a bit, but still below the WHO's 5%.
