High rise is the same here, but the low rise buildings still tend to be wood frame since its cheaper.

it’s my experience that most condo units are pretty sound proof. In summer if you are on the balcony or have a balcony door open...then noise will travel.

Yep, we definitely do.

I usually pass more then 1 speed trap on my way from my house to the edge of town to take the highway into the "big city" to go to school. On a ~3km stretch of road. I've seen them just sitting in the bar in full uniform shooting the shit with the barman.

Vancouver Airport has a crosswind runway runway 13/31 its going to be used as a parking lot for Air Canada and Westjet as they begin parking aircraft.

One thing that seems to not be on the radar of politicians yet is the homeless and drug addicts of the DTES, how does one self isolate when one has no home?

Vancouver Park Board is going to close high use parking lots of various parks around the city, due to
insufficient public compliance with social distancing protocol.

These small closures one by one is in my opinion part of a large shutting down coming soon.

https://vancouver.ca/news-calendar/p...-response.aspx

Looks like most of the parks will remain open for now, just no parking which likely mean less people visiting.

Looks like they are starting with
  • Kitsilano Beach
  • Queen Elizabeth Park
  • English Bay
  • Jericho Beach
  • Locarno Beach
  • The Seawall
  • Stanley Park
  • VanDusen Botanical Gardens

Yep, our neighbourhood is attached to a nice park and parking lot has been full every day i have taken walks through the park and it just keeps getting busier. Parents were fighting over whos kids got to use what play equipment to try and limit the amount of kids on one thing at a given time.

I got laid off today, not unexpected, Grandad 94 in UK is in Hospital with Pneumonia, sore throat and a cough, is awaiting covid test results, is not allowed visitors.

my grill element on the oven has conked out and the washing machine is filling with water when it's off.

Early May visitors have cancelled, one half is stuck in the US, the other half at home in Germany, they are mid -late 70's, our late May visitors are looking into rebooking for next year.

I am going to buy some craft supplies and dog food tomorrow when I pick up my letter from work and then cocoon myself. Puppy will miss out on essential socialising and may cause issues in the future, hoping to at least be able to book her into a groomer in the next two weeks before everything is shut down.

OH is still working at the moment, his place of work laid off 21 on Friday.

stay safe peeps.

re noise on apartments and condos ................

I read an interesting article a couple of weeks about how to reduce noise coming from adjacent apartment of from yours to them.

They seemed pretty simple and not too expensive. I think it might have reviewing a book, but can't now find it. Maybe you try googling for "ideas to reduce noise in apartments"

One suggestion was install cork on the walls ...... perhaps not for a renter bu could be for an owner.

Another was book cases from floor to ceiling all along a joint wall, then fill the shelves with books .... pick the books up cheaply at a thrift store.

I'm really sorry to hear that you've been laid off Piff Poff. Lots of bad news for you in one hit, I'm glad you're getting some craft supplies to give you something nice to do.

MrBEVS says the solenoid valve is not shutting off. There should be a tap that feed the washing machine. Either under sink or back of w/m. Just turn that off and on as you need to. If there is hot and cold going to the w/m then you will need to turn both on and off as needs be. Hope that helps a bit for now.

We can get onto the Save On website, it will let us pick a day and time and load the shopping cart but then times out with a server error at check out and doesn't complete.

If only I could take sleeping pills 2 times a day and just sleep near 24 hours a day, seems like the best solution, sleep through it all in the comfort of home.

Safeway is doing the following for their store employees:

All teammates will receive an additional $50 a week, regardless of the number of hours worked, recognizing how each one of our heroes is going over and above to feed our customers.
• All of our teammates who work more than 20 hours a week will receive an additional $2 premium per hour for all hours over 20 hours, in addition to the $50 payment mentioned above.
• All of these new arrangements are retroactive to March 8, 2020, and employees will receive their first payments in early April.
• This program will be reassessed at the end of April.

At 25 The Esplanade people can be having a party that's loud in the corridor, through the closed door, but inaudible in the apartment next door. In winter, anyway, open the windows and that doesn't work.

This may be the ultimate Canadian petit-bourgeois comment. Toronto and Vancouver are not especially big cities. Not all people think a plastic coated wooden box near a strip mall is more suited to family or pet life than, say, a pre-war apartment opposite Hyde Park or on Central Park West. In NYC or Paris, for example, very many rich children live in apartments near their elite schools, near the parks, near the museums and galleries.
